Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

A very different "horror" story, more a diabolical Home Alone combined with The Omen.Unable to get a loan to open a diner, an ex-con lets a friend persuade him into a kidnapping. He and the others soon discover their victim isn't what he appears to be and disaster follows. This movie is filled with familiar faces, even if the audience won't be able to put names to a good many of them. It seems a great many TV series are represented, with Josh Holloway from Lost leading the way. Blake Underwood, as David, is a fantastic little actor, handling the adult dialogue the kidnap "victim" delivers with just the proper menace and unnerving stares. It'll be interesting to see what this youngster does if he continues as a actor after becoming an adult, for his portrayal of David is eerie. No mention is made of why David is the way he is or exactly what he is, though there is a climactic scene toward the end of the movie in which it's disclosed he's already killed his father and nanny. A little background would've been good though it isn't necessary for the story other than giving some explanation to the audience. There are a few shock moments, making one jump, and more than enough psychological moments as when Roxanne is trapped in a shower with a wolf sniffing outside the open bathroom door. All in all, an expected good shocker of a psychological drama.

Not terribly impressed with Whisper for reasons that follow. The trailer pretty much gives everything away. What you see is what you get, except that the film does have a few twists and turns. The child actor who, as we know from the trailer, is abducted, is almost nauseatingly conceited and OVER ACTS in his role. There are some interesting parts of the storyline which could have been better developed, not to mention a deeper character development wouldn't have hurt. There are times it seems the film drags on and then "BOO", a scary moment appears. I read some other reviews of this title and someone compared this film to The Ring and The Omen. The Ring? No, The Ring was very well done and Whisper is nothing like The Ring, which did have genuine creepy moments. As for The Omen, well, we know (again just by viewing the trailer) that there is something wrong with this boy but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is as good as The Omen. Similar behaviour, perhaps, but nowhere near as good. Finally, I did enjoy the kidnapping aspects and how that unfolded, which made the film more of a Thriller. This film is great for the average individual or group looking for a scary thrill but will not hold up to the standards of big Horror fans.

Ordinarily I wouldn't have watched this movie since I hadn't heard a thing about it and the cover looked a bit cheesy. But there wasn't much else available so I took a gamble. We sat down to watch it with low expectations and after a somewhat shaky start it became so scary my wife bailed out and I had to watch the last half alone. Overall the character development is adequate for this type of movie but a bit implausible at times.** spoiler ahead **There were some familiar faces in this, when Sydney (Michael Rooker in a minor but well-done role)died I felt like I did when I watched Deep Blue Sea where Samuel L. Jackson bought it early on. I can see that Josh was played by a guy who was on Lost but I've never seen that show. I was pleased to see Gus from Psych in a serious role and his fate was a bit of a surprise, too. And Teryl Rothery from Stargate was good as the adoptive mother of "poor little David." The methods used for the killings is typical, heart attack and falling thru the ice which is good since the kid never wants to be connected to any of the deaths. The kid playing David who forces the deaths is eerie right from the start. It looked like David not only expected abduction but was happy to go along. They did telegraph the identity of the "mastermind" or at least I figured it out before the show was half over, but the reveal was still fun. The ending was quite clever with Josh deafening himself to obviate the kid's whispering and the final blow was surprisingly not upsetting. By then David was not a kid in my mind at all so they could have blown him up and I wouldn't have cared. It was done more or less in shadow so it's not explicit at all. They don't waste time trying to explain the kid's abilities, probably a mix of his artwork and whispering, so it's left up to the viewer to decide how he can do what he does which makes plot-holes much less likely. If it's whispers how can he control events miles away or even know about them? But if it's partly his drawings then who knows what he can do which was smarter than I expected.Acting, sets, wardrobe and script were all well-done and the SFX with the wolves was subdued but effective. I'm glad they didn't explain how the kid does things or how he got his abilities so it's not necessarily the "evil angel" he seems to suggest. Well worth the rental and if it's on TV for free I'd recommend it. It's unusual to sympathize with the bad guy/kidnappers but compared to the creepy-eyed kid it's not hard to do so with the exception of the third male kidnapper, Vince I think. He's so thoroughly unlikeable that I had hoped he'd be the first victim. A tiny complaint is that the girl, Roxanne, appeared to mother the kid too much and too early but that could be explained by her guilty conscience. 9/10 and I'll look for it again in the future.

Its very surprising to see a top studio like Universal let a rookie writer and rookie director make a complete hash of a movie. This movie had so many plot holes I don't know where to begin. Most importantly though, we never find out what David was, an angel, a demon, a child with amazing powers, were the others just having visions etc. At least in a movie like the Omen, you knew what the child stood for. And like many other poorly written and contrived movies, the ending was very weak, the kid was made out to be invincible so he shouldn't have died and I don't think anybody got anything out of max giving away the money. The alternate ending was better but this movie was so poorly put together, nothing could really save it. In the making of on the DVD, a lot was made of the fact that Dean Cundey was the director of photography (when do they ever get top billing) and it transpired that he was helping the director do most of the shoots which goes back to my original point. At least the beautiful sarah wayne callies was worth looking at.
