The greatest movie ever made..!
Good start, but then it gets ruined
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
The movie peaked my interest despite the low rating because these sorts of romantic drama-thrillers with a African American cast tend to have a lower rating than (at least I feel like) they deserve, for instance 'OBSESSED (2009)', 'NO GOOD DEAD (2014)' which both I liked a bunch. But in this case the rating was justifiably low.It starts out okay enough, even though Jaz Sinclairs acting is dodgy from the very first moment she pops into the film, and in all honest Regina Hall doesn't prove herself to be that much of a dramatic actor this time. I like her in comedies though but yeah not impressing here.Morris Chestnut is easily the best actor in the film (well if you count out Michael K Williams who just appears pointlessly in 2 scenes) but not even he can save this. But in the end the biggest problem with the film is not the acting but how stupid the plot is, again starts out okay but falls apart 1 hour in or so, and it becomes a constant struggle not to raise an eyebrow on some of the decisions the characters make in the film. It's like a Lifetime movie really, and not one of the better ones.
Some people on here really want to be oppressed. There is nothing "racist" about this film, LMAO. The actor who plays the abusive boyfriend, Theo Rossi, is not even white, so please stop complaining. Also, "When The Bough Breaks" was clearly marketed as a Black Thriller, so if you dislike the .0001% of movies that actually aren't white male- centric, I suggest you don't watch them. Just A thought. This a good movie, with great acting by all three of the leads. Jaz SInclair and Regina Hall are the unsung heroes of this film. I find Jaz Sinclair incredibly sexy. There was something very magnetizing and intense about her performance. Even during the character's most brutal moments, I still felt the urge to protect Anna's sweet face. (I am saying this as a straight woman, btw) "When the Bough Breaks" is probably not a movie I'd see in theaters, but it is worth the watch nonetheless.
I knew this movie was gonna be good when I saw the previews, but it was ten times better than I expected. Enjoyable, well crafted and good overall. Would def watch another like this and would recommend. Had more twists than I expected, but as soon as the movie started I was hooked. I am usually pretty hard to please with movies and like to criticize every little detail but with this one I really have no complaints. Should have gotten more stars and a better rating.I waited a lot longer than I wanted to, to see the movie. I wanted to see it when it was in theaters but never had the chance. I finally got a chance to watch this movie months later. Wished I would have seen it sooner. I put it off so long that I thought I wasn't going to like it anymore but finally watched it and loved it way more than I ever thought I was going to.
Here's a film of 2016 that didn't seem to gain a lot of traction. First thing that came to mind while viewing the film is that it felt so much like Fatal Attraction. I think Fatal Attraction may be the quintessential film about a psychotic woman who tries to ruin the relationship of a man she's obsessed with. In recent years, we have seen a trend of very similar films. Hollywood has a lot of films that are similar in form, which is perfectly fine. The trick is to not be too formulaic and offer something that will commit itself to memory. Films will obviously draw upon previous influences, they just need to be of substantial quality and be able to stand on its own merit. Unfortunately, I can not say this about When the Bough Breaks. The premise of the film involves a young attractive woman, who decides to be the surrogate mother for a couple who cannot conceive. She also seems to be the victim of domestic violence, which further contributes to the affection of the couple. little do they know that she has ulterior motives that involve seducing the husband and tearing the family apart. The plot is interesting enough on paper but the delivery was all over the place. The film feels like something you would see on the Lifetime network. The dialogue at times seems simple and amateurish, writing isn't always up to par, parts of the plot drop in pace leading to an uneven feeling of plot progression. The film struggles to find its pace and I felt like the tone of the film kept shifting. Parts of it are drama, other parts feel like a romantic thriller, and then it diverts into a horror. This isn't a bad thing but you could just tell the filmmaker had a hard time keeping the film even.I thought the acting was fairly solid. Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, and Jaz Sinclair all did well with what they were given. The film just ended up being too predictable and formulaic. Never was I genuinely shocked by something that happened. Having a psycho surrogate mother was a different twist on something that we see a lot but it doesn't do enough to make the film memorable or remarkable. There are some nice scenes, like when Sinclair lays on the floor donning her seductive red dress, however the film doesn't push the erotic boundaries. I think this was due to the PG-13 rating of the film. You won't leave this film thinking much about it, its a decent watch for when you are bored but not worth much more thought or consideration.5/10
