The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
Chelios faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working. The first Crank was indeed insane and did have a majority of flaws but Crank 2 is just pure stupidity and a camp fest of insane things like a mega Jason Statham in the heights of Godzilla and even Statham burning and giving a middle finger on the camera. Crank 2: High Voltage is pure awfulness of epic proportions!!! (3/10)
Crank 2: High Voltage (2009): Dir: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor: Cast: Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Efren Ramirez, Dwight Yoakam, David Carradine: Basically a duplicate of the first film, which in itself was very good, fast moving, and quite amusing. The same cannot be said of this crappy duplicate. It regards high energy as Jason Statham's heart is removed and replaced with an electronic device that he must charge in order to stay alive. Much graphic violence follows as he cuts through various thugs to get to his heart. Well directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor whose talents might serve to greater use to a better script. The film does contain unique visual movements yet it is the same premise. Statham goes through the same drill and even has another public sex scene with his stripper girlfriend, played by Amy Smart. This was funny the first time out. Now it is overplayed and boring. Efren Ramirez makes an appearance with a reflex condition. Perhaps it was from the embarrassing thought of being part of this film. Dwight Yoakam also appears but he is above this junk. Perhaps the most wasted appearance is David Carradine as a meat-head called Poon Dong. Can anyone possibly take him seriously with a name like that. Crank was amusing with its fast paced action and comedy combination but this pointless and stupid sequel deserves a few hundred electrical shots of its own. Score: 3 / 10
There are films that should be taken seriously, and there are those that should not. This is in the latter category. If you don't expect much more that fast-paced action, impossible outcomes, lots of skin, crazy and hilarious scenes and gratuitous violence, then you won't be disappointed in High Voltage.Mr. Statham turns in his usual and brilliant performance. Ms. Smart does the same. This is a guy's night out flick. Get some beer, get some pizza, sit down and prepare to laugh. The cast and crew obviously had a lot of fun putting this thing together. I sure had fun watching it and was laughing so hard at times that I had to wipe tears from my eyes.
This movie is absolute garbage. Don't get me wrong, i love Jason Statham, but this movie is properly one of the worst he has ever made. I've only seen the first 30 minutes, but holy BIIP that was bad. Its just one big running and confusing scenes where you have no idea whats going on. The acting is really bad (Jason does a okay job) But the others are really bad. You really have no idea whats going on in the beginning. If you have watched Crank 1, then this is a absolute downfall from that. The plot, the actors, the camera are just bad. I really hope for the sake of the movie that it gets better after the first 30 min, because that was literally the most non-fun action part i've ever seen.
