U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko tracks a killer in Antarctica, as the sun is about to set for six months. I have seen Whiteout a few times by now since it's 2009 release and i gotta say it's not as bad as everyone makes it sound like the suspense was pretty good, the twists keep on coming, the acting was good and Kate Beckinsale is terrific as always. The movie reminds me a bit of D-Tox that 2002 Thriller starring Sylvester Stallone i mean you have a character with a troubled past that tries to locate a killer just like in D- Tox. The whole reason of why Carrie (Beckinsale) is there and why she is afraid of herself or things that she is going to fail makes perfect sense and the story even tho it's not original or anything it was pretty decent but unfortunately the movie has issues and one of the biggest ones is definitely the pacing of the movie it's very slow and even depressing at times but it's still a fun thriller that i think people will enjoy even with it's flaws. (7/10)

Whiteout is a dismal murder mystery thriller. It looks like once the film was completed, it went through lots of post production editing to salvage something that could be released hence why Stuart Baird is listed as a supervising editor.Kate Beckinsale plays a US Marshal at an international research base in Antarctica. When a body is found she needs to investigate a possible homicide before winter sets in and it gets dark for some months. We can guess that the murder is somehow linked to the initial scenes we saw of a Russian plane some years earlier that crash landed as it was being sabotaged by some of its crew.Director Dominic Sena is out of his depth here. The film looks cheap with dodgy CGI snowstorms. The mystery is mediocre, things happen and it makes no sense. Even when the mystery is cleared up, we have another twist which is predictable.

..........................................................from Pasto,Colombia...Via: L.A. CA., CALI, COLOMBIA....and ORLANDO, FL Here's a sure bet: Out of millions of IMDb NF users, only a handful have ever been to Antarctica! A hostile environment provides a great backdrop for an Action/Crime/Drama/Thriller(IMDb genres) such as WHITEOUT. And Antarctica is just about as hostile as it gets! The film does get off to a really GREAT start. While in the theater, my enjoyment was genuine during 80 to 90% of the movie...Just after viewing, 7.5* was my rating...But after a few hours of cerebral ricocheting, I realized that perhaps I'd allowed my emotions a little too much free reign, permitting myself to be a partial victim of WHITEOUT's cinematic snow job!...YES.. "I was Snow-Blinded by the light!" Therefore, my revised rating is 6*! I'll explain: WHITEOUT does have a few top-notch scenes, where director Dominic Sena (Swordfish/GONE in 60 Seconds) really manages to work the "Hostile Environment" angle I mentioned at the beginning to its fullest! However, this very unique initial strength proves eventually to be a tremendous constraint on the overall film. During the first half of WHITEOUT there are several scenes where the safe haven home-base compound is left behind and helicopter trips are taken as part of an ongoing murder investigation. But the all-white outdoors soon gets a little drab and painfully bright on the eyes.During most of the last half of the film, weather conditions force everyone to pretty much stay inside the compound, which also provides rather austere viewer surroundings. This movie suffered from insufficient character development and over-reliance on several action-thriller-slasher scenes, which, although exciting and well-executed, were not enough to sustain WHITEOUT at a solid 8* for its duration! In any case, 6*.....ENJOY/DISFRUTELA! Any comments, questions or observations, in English or Español, are most welcome!

As an example of how much I wanted to like it, I hate cop movies and cop shows - so I was working hard to appreciate this one.**POSSIBLE SPOILER HERE** The other reviewers have hit many nails on the head, but the nail in the coffin for me was a stupid character choice with no possible motive. After the first action scene, the "suspicious cop" wants them to leave a location to go investigate a science station - right after the protagonist has been attacked by a murderer! This is without a doubt one of the stupidest and least-convincing character decisions I've ever been asked to buy into. Bad guy kills other guy with an ice ax, tries to kill female Marshall - and is presumably still on location (since there wasn't an extra plane on their arrival that is now missing) and the cop shows no interest in investigating...Still better than reality TV, but man oh man.M
