I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Great Film overall
Dreadfully Boring
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
It is what it is. They weren't trying to win an Academy Award with this. Follows much of the same formula, only with Taj as the Van Wilder-like character. It's funny in spots, a bit sophomoric in humor. There's a rich bad guy, and a girlfriend who he doesn't treat well. The rich guy tries to get the title character thrown out of school...and so on. It was better than I expected. Just wish I had seen it earlier, as it's been out for 12 years. Would watch it again, as part of a Van Wilder double feature.
I don't know what people are talking about!!!! Maybe they did not get all the one liners(great ones, mind you!) It's one of the simplest comedy movies in a long time.. No hidden messages, nothing cryptic, just a great entertainer.. with great script, awesome story.. and the performance by Kal Penn! I consider this one of the best stress busters of all time and watch it when things in real world get too serious just to get the feeling that there is a lighter side of life; however improbable, still can bring that one expression that brings a curved lip line on your face. Watch it with your friends guys!.. not with a movie critic and you might get a hint as to what i am talking about. And believe you me, i am not the only one who agrees to such.Bottom line: Do not judge this movie based on the finesse of an artist. You would miss the inbred fun and frolic.Just realize that there are still things to be enjoyed without doing a critical acclamation and you should be fine!
And it was only 3 squid me ol' muckers Pretty bad flick on all counts, Kal Penn holds it together as best the man can, he forges out a couple of funnies but the supporting cast who try hard must have been kinda cheap to hire...the dude with the Big Wang doesn't make much sense, the Irish guy does look a lot like his older bro from titanic, I wouldn't put the nerd in a starburst advert but I thought the English tart had balls spouting such filth...what would her mother say? Kind of looks like they made it in a couple of weeks so I appreciate the effort and I think it was worth 97 minutes of my life on planet earth...I didn't watch the extra features I'm sorry to say and I was kinda bummed the way the every 'hastings' scene had the cheapest possible activity, sword fight, paintball, dog show, bus ride, drinking competition....yet there was no stunts and only 4 breasts involved plus Taj's golf cart was super slow..........hey ho!On the plus side they don't need Van or even Taj to bust out a whole host of Van Wilder Chronicles. Funny and cheap that why national lampoons are a rock and i predict will survive the credit crunch.
I see there are few very bad reviews on this movie. I think most of these reviews have come from British viewers who did not like mockery of themselves. I understand it is hard sometime to see the mockery of yourself, specially if you the one who mocks others. Well this is 21st century and British are no more ruling the world. Face it man.Rise of the Taj is quite a fair reflection of a confident Indian facing the British with confidence and pride. It is also a reflection of the fact that Britain is still divided into two classes the cynical asshole snobs ( who wouldn't mind of conquer the world again) and the liberal class who accepts everyone one in the British Society with open arms. One bad thing I would like to say about this movie is the ending. The characters of Taj's parents were really not required. They were bit pushy with their comic. The ending could have been also a little sensible. All in all it is a good movie and I recommend people from both Britain and India to see the movie. For British viewers I would only like to say please enjoy the pun and don't draw conclusions.
