disgusting, overrated, pointless
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
A complete waste of time, sadly. One of the most disjointed and incoherent screenplays ever written.
The happening is a great movie. It's about something that effects humans in a way that makes them start killing themselves. First, people become confused. Then they kill themselves. It is revealed after some suicides that plants have released some sort of toxin into the air that reverses the survival instinct in humans, and therefore they want to kill themselves. The plants do this because of the bad effects people are having on the environment. The suicide parts are scary. Examples are a woman sitting on a bench next to another woman in New York City. This is the first suicide. The woman who kills herself tells the other woman she doesn't know where she is or something. The woman sitting next to her thinks she's joking and says something in response. The other woman then pulls something out of her hair and stabs herself in the neck with it. Other suicides include a man getting into a lion's pen at a zoo and a lion bites or tears his arms off. The movie is very scary and creepy and the plant's toxin thing is a very interesting idea. It's not as good as the sixth sense. It's way better than signs and way way better than lady in the water. Lady in the water is awful and signs is fairly bad. M. Night Shyamalan really came back good with this one.
I feel obligated to warn every human on the planet to not waste an evening of their valuable time on this. I'm intentionally keeping this review short because I feel I've already lost enough of my life to this horrific train wreck of a video... I also refuse to refer to it as a movie. It is, by a long stretch, the single worst attempt at a movie I've seen on my 36 years on this planet. I made it all the way to the end out of pure fascination that this attempt at a movie was actually released to the public, and it left me wondering if there'll ever come a point where the public can sue directors for wasting significant periods of people's lives after deceptively coercing people into sitting through this filth with no warning of how dreadful it is. It's not even an opinion either, this attempt at a movie is factually awful in every respect. Please, I beg of you, only watch this if you wish to take on a new low in your life, a bottom of the barrel benchmark in which frankly nothing else that you watch from this point onwards could possibly be worse. It's all up from here. This film should be deleted from all publicly available services with immediate effect, life is too short to waste some of it being subjected to this utter toilet of a film.
Before I start let me get one thing first this is a terrible film no doubt about that so why am I giving this a 8 rather than a 2 because it made me laugh my ass off so hard that I can't help but enjoy it. If you're look for a movie that was supposed to scare you but makes you laugh instead then watch this movie. Is there any other redeeming qualities to this film no, like I said if I was rating this like normal it would be a 2.
