Das Boot (1982)

One of my all time favorites.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

A sheer masterpiece of unrelenting terror that makes impeccable use of its claustrophobic atmosphere, nerve-wracking tension & nail-biting suspense to deliver a World War II epic that's still unsurpassed in the authenticity of its tension & realism, Das Boot is a naval adventure unlike anything seen on film before or since. A masterwork of pristine craftsmanship that's as refined in the storytelling department as it is flawless in its technical execution, this quintessential submarine film isn't just one of the greatest films ever made but is arguably the very pinnacle of German cinema.

I never thought the film could be so boring. Perhaps it is because I watch the 208 minutes director's cut version, rather than the original theatrical release version with 150 minutes. For the director's cut version, it is total rubbish. The pace is extremely slow and many scenes are just repetitive. The terror and despair scenes of the soldiers are shown again and again. The director wants the audience to have pity on the Nazi soldiers? No way! They start the war, and they deserve to lose the war.The only merit of the movie is that the ending is beyond expectation and cliché. So the rating for this movie is 2/10.

Wolfgang Petersen did something I felt was impossible... I actually found myself kind of rooting for the Germans in this WWII set film. Great performances from all of the cast and it is good to see that even the enemy is just doing what they also think is right. A must see. Must. Must. Must. Must. Must.

A successful kind of realistic war movie. In all scenes the actors are convincing, making you feel what the marines passed in that tough days, but the more than 3 hours took a little bit far. This movie shows the second war by a perspective of a group of marines that have a hard mission. Staying inside a submarine for long time, giving and taking bombs. Like all movies of war, and in my opinion not different of the reality, the missions are pathetic. The attacks don't make much sense and usually the heroes are teenagers that don't' have a clue of the propose of what they are fighting for. If you like war movies and have planty of time, certainly Worth seeing!
