Such a frustrating disappointment
From my favorite movies..
If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
First off I am a big fan of Kate beckinsale so kind of biased on that, it is a slow moving movie but I don't always dislike slow dramas, and drama/mystery is the genre I would put it in, not horror
A - This wins worst title of the year. B - Maybe the filmmakers were warning us, so it's actually our fault for subjecting ourselves to this uninspired--wait for it--disappointment? I really hope the people behind (to blame) for this film glance at these reviews so they at least lose a little sleep over knowing the recycled garbage someone is paying them to create. They should deactivate the spoiler warning on this page because this movie has no honest twists. It's blatant. There is some classically eerie set ups, which are fairly appreciated, but it only grows more generic until they just throw a whole bunch of garbled confusion and nonsensical bits in the "climax." How far DJ caruso has fallen. And how pompous and boring has Wentworth Miller become (or has always been?). Stay away my friends, these filmfakers (#filmfakers) deserve to be rewarded with failure. If you're looking for a ghost story go watch The Sentinel, or The Uninvited.
I'm not a big fan of horror films because I get nightmares easily, therefore I don't watch them often. But even I can see how unoriginal this movie was. Stereotypical tragic event in the family's past that is constantly alluded to but never fully explained until the end; big run down house in the middle of nowhere; overly happy father always upbeat and playful with the kid; mentally unstable protagonist whose illness is used solely as a way to have her scary experiences shrugged off, etc. There are a couple of jump scares that were so predictable. There were no other scary images or anything (personally I was thankful for that lol) And then there was really no plot, with an ending that didn't make much sense or leave you with a sense of satisfaction. I can see why this movie was pulled from theaters after just three weeks. This is something I would expect from a Lifetime movie - in fact I bet that's where you'll see this playing someday. I can't believe this is the same director as Disturbia. At least that movie got some reaction from me. The Disappointments Room is a colossal waste of time.
I had high hopes for the first half of this movie, but it just falls into a jumble in the last half. So many unanswered questions; a random kite, a random carpenter,etc.. If you want to see a classic with a similar story line, but done much, much better, check out The Changeling, bone chilling Canadian movie from 1980 with George C Scott. Don't be fooled by it's age, it's scary. You can even see it on youtube for free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVttK509_JI .....it's basically everything this movie is trying to be except....you know, it makes sense.
