The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

The town of Cherry Falls, and students are being targeted by a deranged serial killer. The modus operandi appears to be only virgins are being selected.Compromised in production, Cherry Falls, while not exactly pushing itself forward as a top line slasher, still shows some devil may care attitude and cheeky propositions. Flipping the standard formula of teens having sex then getting murdered on its head, the screenplay instead has the kids needing to have sex to stay alive! The script has some absolute zingers in it, so keep your ears open, and a solid cast headed by Michael Biehn, Jay Mohr and an adorable Brittany Murphy keep tongue in cheeks as the blood does flow. You wont be taxed to work out who the killer is, and come the final quarter as the flashbacks reveal all, death in Cherry Falls loses its impact. But still there's enough teenager stalk death fun to keep it watchable. 6/10

I start this review stating that it's surely inspired in teen horror movies that were made in late 90's, such as "Urban Legend" and "Scream". Even thought the main plot seems quite ridiculous, I must confess that the whole story actually MAKES SENSE. I expected it to be a total lame movie with hilarious scenes all the time, but it is not-- and I don't know why IMDb categorizes it as "Comedy" in first place. It's a delightful movie to watch, mainly when Brittany Murphy comes in scene-- she is young and cute in this picture. "Cherry Falls" doesn't have a known cast, but there is nothing bad to say about the acting. All of them are plausible for the characters they're playing. It is, in my point of view, a better version of "I Know What You Did Last Summer", with less clichés and a more credible story, even if it seems lame in a first sight. So that's it, I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed this film and would recommend to friends; I just don't give it a higher rating because it is sometimes too similar to the movies cited above.

I had never even heard of this movie until recently. I guess I was far outside of its demographic, being almost 30 when it was released. I watched it because I thought it was a Michael Biehn movie about him chasing a serial killer. However, it turns out that this is a ridiculous Scream clone, marketed to teenagers. The first half of the movie is pretty stupid. Like Scream, it constantly attempts to impress us with its witty and ironic deconstructions of teenage slasher conventions. In traditional movies, such as Friday the 13th, a serial killer brutally murders horny teenagers who have sex. In this movie, it's the reverse: a serial killer hunts down and brutally murders virgins. That's very witty and ironic, if you're a teenager or hack screenwriter. There are some parts of the movie that work, however. While too inhibited to be effective as a horror movie, there are some funny scenes near the end. Also, if you're looking for a small town with a dark secret, this is definitely your kind of place. I was actually a bit surprised that they went this dark. I was expecting a rather bland and stereotypical backstory, if any.For a movie targeted to teens, it's really not that bad. If you're old enough to have teenage kids yourself, however, I'd probably steer clear.

This film is about a town plagued by a serial killer who kills teenage virgins.I know it's a horror film, but I can't stop myself from being amused by the ridiculous plot that the serial killer killing virgins. How is the killer supposed to know who is a virgin and who is not? Anyway, this killing spree gives the high school student the perfect excuse to have sex with each other, which I also find darkly humorous. There is an attempt to put some emotional drama involving the main family, but it does not quite work. The film does not provide much tension or scare, but it does keep my interest because I want to know how it will end. I think "Cherry Falls" is the kind of horror film that people enjoy because it is actually more funny than scary.
