Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

As far as jaws sequels goes this is the best by a country mile. It lacks the originality and style of the first film but also hosts a very bearable and understandable plot and is altogether a very watchable movie.

Obviously made to cash in on the coat tails of Jaws. The novel was not written by Benchley for obvious reasons. Jaws was an original one shot story , there was no reason for a sequel except money. Totally inferior mess teen beat movie for the mind numb. There is nothing original ,jaws already did the shark attack movie which was excellent, This mess of a sequel is boring and all the teenage actors you want to just slap the crap out of them, they are so mind numbingly boring bad actors and actresses who spend most of their screen time spouting potty mouth dialog and screaming. A totally unnecessary waste of time and money for this film every copy should be burned.

If I were to make an appropriate comparison, Jaws 1 was a White shark bite, ferocious and huge, Jaws II would be a bite from a Blue Shark, still nasty, but lacking the ferocity. The film reminds me of the Halloween follow up in so many ways, the first being a moment of cinema where the game was changed, a massive act to follow, both feel like a direct continuation of the first, both have quality, but lack the originality and impact of their predecessor.Jaws II is slow to start, but as it gets going it really cranks up the tension, featuring some really good, tense moments. The shark has become a psycho killer instead of just a predator, and is now intent on killing its victims in the way Michael Myers did. Some good strong special effects, I thought in several scenes the shark looked very realistic, I've never been a fan of the ending though, it's just a bit silly. Roy Schneider clearly did not want to do this film, and I think it shows in his performance, he is not happy. It's a pretty good sequel, trouble is the original is a classic.

Nowhere in the same league as the original film, but it still works as an effective simple minded nature-gone-wild film. Roy Scheider returns as Chief Brody and so does composer John Williams, but the film is lacking Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, so this film is sadly missing that entertaining three-way character dynamic, but most of all, the film is missing Steven Spielberg, who brought an unbelievable amount of tension and suspense to what is arguably the greatest nature-gone-wild film of all-time. However, in defense of "Jaws 2," if you compare it to something like the slickly made recent shark attack film "The Shallows," I have to say this film's shark sequences are far and away more effective. I believe it's because even though the shark in "Jaws 2" is clearly a mechanical prop, seeing something physical attacking the characters on open water is much more visceral of an experience than watching a CGI shark attacking Blake Lively. Overall, this is a satisfying enough of a thriller with a pretty exciting climax, even if it's nowhere as good as the original (although it's far better than parts 3 and 4).
