Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
Really Surprised!
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
This is for the first time I am writing a review for a movie. How do I differ a bad or good movie? Usually, if I can't watch a movie more than ten minutes, then it's a bad movie to me. If it is good I watch it until the end and enjoy the movie. Running for Grace is an amazing movie. I wished to watch more because it finished so quickly. This is what happens with a good movie. Best wishes!
Running for Grace beautifully blends the scenic Big Island with a story that captures the hearts of its viewers. David Cunningham did a very good job directing the film by keeping it on the Big Island and by casting actors that are passionate about the story and the history of the early residents during that time. This movie is a must-see for the whole family!
If you're from the Big Island, particularly the west side, this might be fun to watch to catch the familiar scenery and faces of people you know. However, if this doesn't hold hometown appeal for you, it's a TERRIBLE movie so don't bother. It's characters are shallow, 2-dimensional stereotypes and it utterly BUTCHERS (and also outright fabricates) Hawaii's history. There is also a baffling absence of any native Hawaiian characters an area of the State that still has one of the highest percentages of native Hawaiians. The acting is truly awful but given that we know that Matt Dillon and Jim Caviezel are at times capable of good acting, it probably has a lot to do with bad directing also. It's VERY clear to me that all the glowing reviews come from people associated with the film, because even if I was in the most generous mood ever, this movie doesn't merit even 2 stars. Sorry, not sorry.
I totally LOVED this movie!!! Incredibly beautiful scenery (great to see it on the big screen), and great story-line with good moral content (pro-adoption, anti-prejudice) and all the right elements of love, action, historical accuracy for early 20th century Hawaii, and conflict between good and evil. Matt Dillon's acting was epic...as was Cole (young Jo, the medicine runner - how can anyone be so naturally cute!!!) and Ryan Potter as older Jo. Wonderful! I've seen it three times, just to try to capture all of the scenery and hidden treasures in the story. I've taken a different friend each time to share the fun!!
