Ghost Stories (2018)
Professor Phillip Goodman devotes his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans. His skepticism soon gets put to the test when he receives news of three chilling and inexplicable cases -- disturbing visions in an abandoned asylum, a car accident deep in the woods and the spirit of an unborn child. Even scarier -- each of the macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to the professor's own life.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Blistering performances.
I'm guessing that most of the reviewers who gave this film a rating over 4/10 have fond memories of the stage play it's based on and/or are (understandably) huge Martin Freeman fans. Very hokey, which probably worked on stage.
Phillip Goodman is a skeptic debunking the supernatural. His inspiration is leading skeptic Charles Cameron who spent his life outing fakes and mysteriously disappeared. Phillip is surprised to receive a note from him. Upon their meeting, Charles had been completely converted and wants Phillip to investigate some real cases.Honestly, the cases bored me. The start is fine but this doesn't come alive until the last half hour. It gets surreal and I'm interested. It's a little too late. I do wonder if a totally surreal movie would be better. The final reveal has no bite since I never actually cared about Phillip. There're some interesting ideas. Overall, this may be interesting but I don't find it compelling enough. As a horror, it lacks the intensity of modern films.
This old-fashioned horror movie tells the story of Dr. Goodman, a well-known professor who received an invitation from an old man who inspired him before, and has been challenged to investigate three cases of supposedly real supernatural encounters. And that's where the creepiness starts. This movie is full of creepy, horrific, chilling scenes that will make you cover your eyes just so you'll be ready when someone/something will just come out of the screen. I remember, after we watched this movie, my uncle purposely opened the lights, and brought his daughter with him downstairs, when he tried to pee before going to sleep, hahaha, as it has some lingering effect. Story is also good as it's kind of a mind game movie wherein you'll think and think of what is really happening. The actors were great and very convincing. All in all, a perfect one for a weekend night. Lights out. Sit tight. Enjoy. Have fun.
I thought this was just going to be a conventional horror story, and for most of the film, it was, but the third act gets WEIRD. It had a real Tom Stoppard's feel to it and reminded me especially of "The Real Inspector Hound." Totally worth watching, just for the, 'wait, what did i just watch!?' of it
