Good concept, poorly executed.

It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Great movie, don't listen to the other reviews, they just upset cuz it appeals to a younger audience like myself in our 20's.

In the bonus segment of the DVD version of "Samson," the actors were earnest in their intention to present a famous biblical tale for popular consumption. One of their stated goals was "to make it as true as possible" to the narrative as presented in the Book of Judges. Unfortunately, their approach never delivered the essence of the message implied in the Bible. To understand Samson, it is important to review the three main "sins" he committed, as depicted in the film:--no drinking of alcoholic beverages (In the film, Samson did not sin because he was duped by the nefarious Philistine Rallah.)--no touching of the dead (In the film, Samson was a one-man wrecking crew when attacked by a horde of Philistines; it was inevitable that his body would come into contact with a pile of corpses.)--no cutting of the hair (As depicted in the film, Samson developed a loving relationship with Delilah, who became fed-up with her psycho boyfriend Rallah; it was Delilah who slipped a mickey in Samson's drink and cut off his hair, not knowing what would be the consequences). The most touching part of the story was the love intrigue of Samson and Taren. With her death at the midpoint of the film, the film turns into nearly non-stop violence. The unpleasantness obscures the biblical message about the God of the Hebrew Bible in contrast to Dagon, the god of the Philistines, whom neither their king or the prince take seriously. It may be that the principal theme depicted in the film is the adage, "God works in mysterious ways." The big hulk from the tribe of Dan was a very decent, god-fearing man. But there was too much mystique surrounding his efforts to save the tribe of Israel. The message of Taren was that in life, "our destiny is what we make of it." But, in the end, the Samson is portrayed in this film is a rather sad, one-dimensional figure who, like Shakespeare's King Lear, is "a man more sinned against than sinning" He seemed to make the most of his narrow destiny, but the only result was that the walls of the Philistines came tumbling down.

It is easy to blame the entire team of this film. for so many reasons. it is cheesy and unrealistic and absurde and uninspired and seems use the Samson story as pretext. but... it is expression of good intentions. the good actors used in awful roles. the transformation of the hero from a boy to a revenger/vulnerable man. the doubts. maybe the fight scenes. and a beautifuf Dalila. the only sin - the dialogues. and the use of characters as stickers. the lead error - to use Jackson Rathbone for a so stupid role. the others - too familiar from religious films and mythological versions of old legends. the error - why use well known names for insignificant roles ? in rest - a film looking be a Bible episode at usum delphini. not surprising. but a MTV version is not the most inspired idea. not only for respect to Holy Book. but for the taste of improvisation about a film who was expected, by a part of public . the good part - it is...original, because, scene by scene you must imagine to see a religious movie.

The only good thing about this movie is that it didn't exaggerate like the movie "Noah". Most of it come from the Bible. However, there are many cons in this movie.1. Bad Casting/makeup - The main character Samson looks more like a caveman and the rest of the crews also have bad costumes. Their beards don't match with faces like they stick them on. They should put more wrinkles on the face. As soon as Samson goes, at some point if you didn't from first of the movie, you may think you are watching Planet of Apes (with dark hair and beard)2. Bad or no special effects - I would expect some good special effect on fighting and killing the Lion and at the end of collapsing the polls. All were done very sloppy. 3. Bad narratives - There are narratives in between, unlike the old movies, this one is really bad like reading a book without expression.4. Can't get into Biblical Atmosphere. - when watching bibical movie like ten commandments (or even the bad movie Noah), viewers will more or less have the feel of biblical times , but not this one.. In other words, boring is the word to describe, it just does not cut it.I would expect stronger, better looking Samson with better acting when angry (like hulk), and young Delilah. She seems much older than Samson. Did i also bad acting in every single actor?!In conclusion, if you read the Bible and watch the film, it may help understanding the event happened before. However, you sure will not be liking this movie...
