Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
Seriously, the Sperieg boys are better than this. A poor script and heavy reliance on jump scares drag this film down.. The Winchester story is a story begging to be told - and it deserved better than this.
Little to no cgi. All scares. Really enjoyed how often I was caught off guard.
Here's The Lowedown on "Winchester" (PG-13 - 2018 - US)...Do you believe in Ghosts, Doctor?Genre: Horror/Paranormal My Score: 6.2Cast=7 Acting=8 Plot=6 Ending=7 Story=8 Scare=3 Jump=4 F/X=7 Creep=8 Twist=4Ensconced in her sprawling California mansion, eccentric firearm heiress Sarah Winchester believes she is haunted by the souls of people killed by the Winchester repeating rifle. "Thirteen nails will seal them in." This made a better movie in general, but lost points in the Horror genre for not being scary at all. I loved the two leads and really enjoyed the story...it was just more of a drama with a ghost story. Do you know what the most terrifying monster is? It's the one you invite into your Blu-Ray player. I loved the story of the Winchester House, so it was worth a watch for me. You might want to lower your expectations.
When we first meet Helen Mirren in Winchester it's unevitable to think of The Woman in Black. We will never know what drove Mirren to take on this role. Perhaps she just wanted a horror movie in her repertoire. Then again, Winchester is a very predictable and unscary paint-by-the-numbers "horror" movie that shouldn't be considered as a genre representative. There is a moment early in the film when actor Jason Clarke is listening at the wall of the haunted Winchester house that made me laugh out loud because from this moment on I knew this is like watching a director (in this case directing brothers) learning to take first steps in the genre. The really sad thing is that not even the house looks scary or creates a tense atmosphere. It's a uninteresting story in a borefest.
