A bit overrated, but still an amazing film

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

The only reason this movie got a 2 is I've actually seen worse. I love disaster movies. I really do. But if you can't figure out this movie is truly bad in the the first 5 minutes there's no hope for you. If you want high art stick to dramas. That's been my complaint for decades when it comes to reviews on action, sci-fi and even comedies from some reviewers. If you want to be entertained you need to be able to suspend disbelief. What will make those movies is story, acting, dialogue, and, in the case of sci-fi, special effects. In the first 5 minutes you know you won't be getting any of those factors in this movie.Despite there being actors in this movie I've truly enjoyed in other movies, you can tell immediately everybody is in this one is only there for a paycheck. I've sat through many a bad movie but only managed 20 minutes on this one before moving on. It speaks volumes when I pack it in 20 minutes in.

This is a very, very generic disaster movie to make it out from the minds at the people at The Asylum. And if you have already seen just a single other disaster movie at any point, then you have essentially also already seen "40 Days and Nights".The storyline is a straight out of the how-to-make-a-disaster-movie manuscript. A global storm of biblical proportions hits the Earth, and the survival of mankind rests in the hands of just a few Americans. It has all been seen before. The CGI effects were ranging from being adequate to being downright ludicrous and horrible to bear witness to. And the constant rain on the screen was the worst; when they used CGI rain, which was quite often, it looked so fake that it was just embarrassing to look at.There were no famous people in this movie, and for obvious reasons you might add. The acting in "40 Days and Nights" was wooden and stiff, as to be expected from a movie of this caliber."40 Days and Nights" is not worth the time or effort, and not really worth the $2 I spent on the DVD. A very typical disaster of a typical disaster movie from the creative minds of the people at The Asylum (or lack thereof).

Bad script, bad acting, atrocious special effects. It can only be an Asylum film homage destined for the ScFy channel. When a massive tectonic shift triggers a tsunami capable of destroying the world the US military creates special Arks capable of holding up to 50,000 people and the DNA of every species possible while the storm consumes most of the world.A microbiologist tries to obtain the various DNA needed but unsure whether its moth or bee DNA that is more important. The film is a rip off of 2012 but the filmmakers also probably anticipated the Russell Crowe starring vehicle Noah that was due out in 2013 as well. You have ridiculous scenes where the scientist accompanied by a tough female soldier (without any apparent weapons and armour) encounter some hillbillies who only have rape on their mind even though the world is to end.You have boring action scenes but all you see is poor CGI and bad model work with interior shots of actors in the ark. The story is nonsensical as if the writers were making it up as the film went along. On the plus point, Christianna Carmine who played the very unmuscular tough soldier with rather heavy make up looked very nice which is worth an extra point.

The obvious, of course: most of the acting is bad and the special effects are horrendous. Tessa's mouth moves so oddly, I almost couldn't make it past the first 2 minutes. It was extremely distracting and she actually looks deformed at times. When flying the C-130, Tessa is not wearing a bra and her shirt is soaking wet, making it see-through. Oddly, when her and Lynn get to the ground she is suddenly wearing a bra. On day 23, while attempting to fix the sails several of the Ark's occupants go outside and it is a bright, clear, breezy day with no rain. 30 seconds later when panning to the outside of the Ark, the clouds are rolling, the sails are flapping in the gusty winds, and it is raining heavily. Although there is no land and everything is underwater, the waves are shown crashing onto a beach. Having said all of that, it certainly isn't the worst movie I have ever seen. That would be Age of Ice.
