I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

Please read this review only after you have watched the movie. In Salvage we met Claire, a teen who lives in a small city with her mom and works as a clerk at a local supermarket. She begins to have dreams in witch she is brutally murdered by a stranger who came to pick her up from work one day instead of her boyfriend. Now she must find out why is this happening to her and discover who is the mysterious man that appears in her visions. As you can see I didn't talk too much about the topic because is so strange and is hard to discuss about it. In the beginning when I've seen Claire beaten up I thought that I will see what is going to happen next but the big surprise was that in reality nothing happened. Then these visions reappear and vanishes again and so on. I must say that the film is unique in it's own bizarre way. The horror scenes are few but scary and gory. This movie is going to be hard to understand even for a fan of mystery genre. I truly did not get it, after all was it about multiple personality? Or body transportation? Leaves you with a lot of questions in your mind. From a horror/thriller in the end got a bit SF but clearly the type of movie that you will not forget too soon.

Just cheap. There's something that just doesn't work about 'Gruesome' and I think it's the lack of budget. The acting is okay and, despite being called 'Gruesome' there isn't that much gore in it (but what there is isn't too bad), so it has to be the general vibe. The film comes across like it's been filmed on a cameraphone and the lighting is practically non existent. Every shot has a grey tint to it, like it's been shot through the wrong filter. I know that's hardly a major thing, but it just adds to the overall feeling of cheapness.'Gruesome' is about a waitress, who seems to be destined to be stalked (and then murdered!) by some local weirdo. Then, just as the axe – literally – falls on her, she wakes up and has to go through it all over again, only with slight variants on the same theme each time. It probably sounds like a 'horror version of Groundhog Day' but it's probably more akin to (the less well known) 'The Deaths of Ian Stone' (although that had a budget!).Maybe the reason the 'grey tinge' bugged me so much is because 'grey' is largely regarded as a dull colour. And it just matches the overall feel. I know the story tries to be a little deeper than your average torture p0rn/slasher film and it does try to add a few twists in there for good measure. But nothing can really disguise the fact that this is a cheap offering that offers very little new in terms of horror or storytelling.

This is what I am talking about America. How hard was it for some independent filmmaker to make one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Not to mention with the same budget I probably have to make my horror movie. I'm not going to get into what it's about it is low-budget, but the story is amazing and the payoff at the end is wow! And the acting is not so bad. I would recommend this to any horror fan that is sick and tired of teenybopper horror films. I am so glad I rented this back when it came out. I have now bought it three times. Once from Blockbuster used, and then it got stolen. Then I bought it from a place called buybacks and it had a different better cover on it. And now I'm watching it on Blu-ray!

Salvage is the worst so called horror film I've ever seen. There is nothing remotely horrific about it. It doesn't deserve to be in a genre so fine. First of all i don't see how so many people can think this piece of crap such a great movie. If I wrote something as boring and utterly ridiculous as this i would be laughed at and too embarrassed to subject others to the stupidity of it. Second: the acting is terrible and the lead actress is excruciatingly ugly. Third: the story sucks, its been used before, and the excuse that its a cheap movie is no excuse. Read the summery on the back of the case, it reveals the whole story. I do not recommend that you watch this movie unless you have 80 minutes to waste on something that will leave you regretting that you watched it. I feel really bad for those Crooks and the irony of their name. All hail Anthony Perkins!!!!!!!!!
