Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This is great and entertaining stuff. I do understand those who complain about historical inaccuracies, but for others who live far away from Texas (such as me) or those who aren't in love with history books this is great TV series with historical background. This stuff shouldn't be rated as some historical documentary. Texas Rising and the other History channel hit "Vikings" deserve genre of their own as they both are great. Even if the scenario has been added with fictional stories and adventures, titles as these are great at recreating the authentic atmosphere of the past. It is great at showing the struggles and problems for people living in Texas in 19th century. On other hand I really enjoyed acting in this TV series as it has some well known actors.Highly recommended even if you aren't bookworm of history.

I really did enjoy this show! A lot of viewers seem to be hating on the History Channel for making so many inaccuracies. The disclaimer at the beginning of the show says it was a dramatization. They also don't have the biggest budget in the world! I thought the acting was great by most every character. I had a problem with Cynthia Addai-Robinson. (Emily West) I felt nothing but overacting from her. Jeffery Dean Morgan was the best by far. His acting literally brought me to tears when he had to put down Charmaine. Bill Paxton played a great Bill Paxton, but I loved it. Brendan Fraser killed it, haven't seen him do something great in a while. I thought the story was great. If facts are not quite accurate it was for sake of the story and I was okay with it.Overall, great show and cant wait for Comanche Wars.

Anyone hear any information about this being available on DVD? I know you can buy it on amazon but it would be nice to have a hard copy. This way you can take it places with you that TV isn't assessable. Or a way to buy it on amazon and somehow put it on to a DVD? Anyways I thought it was a great mini series except for the last part of it. I expected it to be a "wow that was great" ending but was disappointed. I agree that they didn't have to show the dog dead but it was a fake dog so I don't understand why some people are getting so upset. Being a great fan of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, he played a great role in this series. Remember the Alamo!

If you're looking for historical accuracy, you will likely not enjoy this series. The inclusion of fictional characters and overall dramatic license tends to turn off many viewers, but it was not a problem with me going in and currently watching. In the first couple of episodes, the pacing incredibly slow with tons of pointless filler. The dialog can also get pretty bad (though the actors make it work the best they can). However by the third and especially fourth episode, the series turns in a dramatic improvement. With Bill Paxton (Sam Houston) as lead, the entire cast is exceptional, with Cynthia Addai Robinson (Emily West) Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Deaf Smith) and Olivier Martinez (Santa Anna) as stand out performers. The agents of these actors must have their phones ringing off the hook now.
