I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
"Botched" is a high energy, fast moving crime comedy with horror movie style gore. Overall, it's quite invigorating, and frequently funny. Gore lovers will be pleased with what they see here. It has a nicely off the wall sensibility that keeps it unpredictable. Its villain, once revealed, is not so much scary as campy, and our protagonists are likable enough people that we remain on their side.Stephen Dorff stars as Ritchie, an American in Russia who owes a debt to mobster Mr. Groznyi (the always welcome Sean Pertwee). After Ritchie blows one job, Groznyi gives him a final chance to settle the debt: retrieve a valuable artifact from a penthouse apartment. Of course, nothing goes well, and soon Ritchie and his thuggish accomplices are obliged to take hostages. However, crooks and hostages alike all end up menaced by a dastardly sadist (Edward Baker-Duly).Everybody plays this so well that they just hook you right in. Dorff is an engaging hard-luck schmuck who does a good job of taking charge when it needs to be done. The supporting character of Boris Bogdanovich is particularly entertaining, and hilariously played by Geoff Bell. Hugh O'Conor is similarly fun to watch as the put upon Dmitry. Jaime Murray is damn sexy as Anna. Kit Ryans' direction is stylish and the script by Raymond Friel, Derek Boyle, and Eamon Friel contains some priceless dialogue. The gore and makeup effects are excellent and the music by Tom Green has a great funky feel to it.Well worth watching for fans of black comedy.Eight out of 10.
This film was simply great. I got the movie over netflix and it was a really pleasant surprise. The film sets up very well. At first I got the sense that it was just another robbery gone wrong film which has been done so many times it is ridiculous. This was a very cleverly put together and fun film with some great surprises. One thing I found hilarious was the constantly changing allegiances between the characters. Everyone was so desperate to survive, they joined forces with whoever they thought gave them the best chance. The character of Boris will supply plenty of laughs as will the dim witted brothers. Bad Russian accents, low budget, and over the top but this is a true B movie horror gem. Check it out!
A really random film. And I do mean random due to the plot. OK, I won't spoil anything, but here are some of the elements from the film. Russia, heist, hostages and out of nowhere comes a murdering psychopath, living in a abandoned hotel floor, who imagines he is a fearless knight... Like I said, random. But really funny, especially due to the fact, how the all of this idiotic randomness is applied from a realistic perspective. Because it's like the main character is from the real world who just stepped into a world of total chaos. Like Alice in Wonderland. Apart from the main character, who is an American, it is really funny to see all the other actors in this film speak English with this over- exaggerated Russian accent, hence the name of the movie - 'Botched', taken from the English word 'butched'.Definitely is not one of the greatest movies ever. Actually, even pretty dumb at times. But absolutely hilarious if you just sit back, do not take it for a serious movie, but rather enjoy the entertaining comedy of it. Shouold make most comedy lovers laugh.
While escaping from a successful heist of diamonds in an auction house for the Russian mobster lord Mr. Groznyi (Sean Pertwee), the driver of the runaway car crashes a wall and only the thief Ritchie Donovan (Stephen Dorff) survives. He runs with the wallet full of diamonds, but he is hit by a car and loses the stones on the street. The upset Mr. Groznyi sends Ritchie to Moscow to compensate his mistake and steal an ancient and valuable cross in the penthouse of a building with the clumsy Russian brothers Peter (Jamie Foreman) and Yuri (Russell Smith). However the plan goes wrong and Ritchie and his partners take a group of passengers from the elevator as hostage to the 13th floor. They negotiate with the police, but when they release the first hostage in good faith, they discover that their negotiator is not from the police but an evil serial-killer, beginning their night of terror trapped on the floor. The gore "Botched" is an entertaining and forgettable dark comedy. The weird story has funny and silly moments, but something is missing to make "Botched" a cult-movie or at least a great movie. The jokes do not work well and it is strange to see the bizarre "Russian" characters speaking in English. The daughter of Billy Murray, Jaime Murray, is extremely sexy in the role of the executive Anna and shows a great chemistry with Stephen Dorff. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "13o Andar" ("!3th Floor")
