The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The 2006 film "Driving Lessons", by Jeremy Brock was a crazy, and entertaining movie. The main character was Ben. Ben was a very weird person, and he was his mom's puppet. The plot in the film was for Ben to learn how to drive so that he could get his driver's license. Bens mother Sarah was always in Bens ear, and always telling him that god would take care of everything, but in reality his mother was actually crazy. "My mother's gonna kill me. You don't understand". This shows that Sarah basically controlled her son's life. Sarah couldn't teach Ben how to drive because she was too irritating for Ben. Ben met his future best friend; Dame Evie Walton. Evie was a washed up actor that was always drunk. Ben would go over her house to help her out with her garden when she needed help. Sarah was jealous of Evie because she was getting all of Ben's attention. Evie told Ben that she was dying to give Ben a sign saying that he should live life to the fullest, and not be a puppet. Ben's mother and father were in the middle of a divorce, and that's another reason that his mom wanted all of Ben's attention. She felt like she was losing her son to Evie, and she started to keep Ben away from Evie. Without Ben, Evie felt more alone than ever because Ben was her only real friend. She turned backed to getting drunk, and making a fool of herself because no one was there to guide her on the right path. It was a key. "I swallowed it. Frankly, you should be flattered! Now... I insist you have a drink". The film didn't get interesting until the end. Toward the end, Ben started to grow up, and started to become his own person. Ben left an important event to go see Evie because he knew that he could always be his self around Evie. He knew that Evie was more important than any dumb old play. Once Sarah realized what was going on, she was furious. She attempted to try to get Ben back, but Mr. Finchum ended up hitting her with the car out of nowhere. This was a part in the movie that I didn't really understand. Once Sarah was injured, she really wanted Ben's attention, and Ben had no choice but to give it to her. Ben let Sarah know that he was going to be his own man, and that he learned how to drive with Evie. Auld Lang Syne was the song at the end of the movie. Auld Lang Syne was a song meaning a new beginning. The song would be played on new years. Ben grew courage, and even told the girl of his dreams to buzz off. Ben felt rejuvenated, and he felt like a brand new person. Ben felt like there was a new beginning. Ben never got his driver's license. This was the main point of the movie, and it made no sense why they didn't stay on topic. mail.plymouthed.org

There are two reasons why I think that diving lessons was a bad movie and a complete wast of time. First of all there were to many things not finished. The other problem with this movie was it took to long for it to enfold.even know it is a coming to age kind of movie it would of not hurt to put a little more detail into what happened to some of the people like Mr.Fincham. Let me start with why the ending of this movie could have been put together better. When the movie ended there were more questions than answerers. There are three pieces that were not answered and could have helped the move the movie to a more peaceful ending. First what happened to Mr. Fincham? The last time we saw him he hit someone with a car and after was never seen again. For all we know he could still be out there hitting people with cars. The problem I have is what happened to the girl Ben was with. The last time we saw her she was saying buy to Ben and never showed up again. Wouldn't you think she would show up at least one more time to talk to Ben but just like Mr. Fincham saw is never seen again. The final thing is what is going to happen to Ben's family. It ended with him kind of talking to his dad and it looked like he would never talk to mom again than it ended with no way to guess if he is going to talk to anyone ever again. These are the reason why I did not like the way the movie and the way it ended. The other reason why I did not like this very boring movie is it took about an hour to get to anything that was even interesting. The beginning of the movie was slow and had very little meaning to the whole movie. When Ben did meet Evie the movie started to pick up. For a little bit the movie was going at the right speed but then it started to pick up that pace. At the end of the movie to many things happened at the same time and right after that it just ended. It felt like someone hit the fast-forward button for the final 30 minutes and then right when everything was told the same person hit the pause button and never hit the play button again. If you would fix these parts in the movie I think the movie would have been a lot better than how they made it. It was almost a waste of time as a movie because not that many things was explained and charters just came in than after a while were never seen again.

The movie, Driving Lessons, directed by Jeremy Block, is a coming of age story of a boy named Ben Marshall. Ben Marshall is played by Rupert Grint, who plays Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. The characters of the movie are all unique, but some are over the top. The mom in the movie is very overprotective and also extremely religious. The movie had some great character development and did have a message and a very apparent theme. The soundtrack also fit well with the movie. Even though this movie will not go on my top ten list, I thought the movie overall was not too bad. The character of Ben Marshall had the most character development. At the beginning of the movie he was not a very outgoing person and only did what his mother told him to do. His mom seemed to be running his life. When Ben meets Evie Walten he learns that he can make his own decisions and decide what he really wants to do with his life. He learns to have fun and finds adventure. This helps so that by the end of the movie he is able to make the decision of going to college and what job he wants to have. The soundtrack to this movie is also great. The beginning of the movie has music that is more mellow and relaxed. This helps to reflect the idea that Ben is not rebelling in his life at the moment. He is just following the orders of his mom. As the movie progresses and Ben starts becoming closer to Evie, the music becomes more upbeat and showing that he is making more of his own decisions and starting to become his own person. The song at the end of the movie is a great choice, because it ties into the idea of the change in Ben. This song shows that he is starting a new faze in his life and the start of a new life for Ben.This movie wasn't perfect. Some parts of the movie were rushed. This is especially true at the end of the movie. Everything was rushed to make the movie come to a close. Some aspects of the plot also could be confusing. The character of Mr. Fincher is a character I felt did not have to be there. Then, they tried to give him some sort of input, but it really just did not make sense, and took away from the overall theme of the movieOverall, the theme of the movie I felt was prominent without being too obvious. The growth of the main character was enough to make the idea of a coming of age story apparent. It was never pushing the theme. It was just noticeable to the viewer. This helped to make the movie an overall decent movie. I wouldn't watch this movie a lot, but it is a great movie to have watched once.

If I were sick, too tired to get out of bed and grab a DVD, and stumbled upon Driving Lessons on TV at three in the afternoon on a weekday, I would watch it. Other than that I would never watch that movie under any circumstances ever. The movie opened with various scenes of what seemed to be nonsense and did not seem to have a major plot at any time of the movie. It sort of had a Napoleon Dynamite feel to it (great movie). This could be appealing to someone that is willing to stare at a screen blankly for an hour and 40 minutes with an occasional laugh. The most entertaining scene of the movie comes late when Ben, the main character of the story, tells his big crush, Sarah, off. After an awkward rejection early in the movie he gains some confidence during some character development, and gains the courage to promptly tells her to, "f*** off." Which is interesting because she was trying to tell him to look to God to make him feel better, which is what his mom had been doing the entire movie in a more twisted way. There is also the slightly over-the-top, overbearing, and dominating mother, Laura, that controls everyone around her. She turned me off from the movie because she is just another stereotypical annoying Christian mother that tells everyone they are defying God whenever they would do something she did not want. The most extreme example is when Ben tries to run off with his friend and retired actress, Evie, and his mother tells him that if he continues to leave her ridiculous play, he would be turning his back on God. She also tries to get Ben to get a job so he can give his money to a homeless man, that lives in their home, who had run over his previous wife, which is total crap. That was the type of scene where you feel every teenager cringe at the sound of that request. There was also their supposedly great scene where it was Ben and Evie in a camping equipment store which showed various scenes of them goofing around together. The only though in my head was that this has been done many times before, and done much better at that. One thing I noticed was all of the random camera shots of Ben's mom shooting men around the church seductive looks throughout the movie, making me think that she may be having an affair. I was almost excited to see that encounter when the dad found out and confronted the mom about it. No such luck was found, it was just another random thing that the producer included to confuse me and tease me into thinking something interesting was going to happen. So all in all I give this movie a solid D+.
