Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Tried three times to watch this on TV, but had to give up. It appears to have been shot with defective cameras, as all scenes are unbelievably DARK. I've rated this 1 but it deserves a ZERO. WHY do producers let a film go out so extremely crippled? Could the producers not afford decent lighting? Whatever the reason, this abortion should never be put on TV again.

Oh god, this is the obviously the worst adaption ever made...involving Peter Bencheley. Peter Bencheley, why don't you just go take A SWIM? I love horror novels, but not ones that basically have the SAME plot: Giant creature comes and kills people. Gets bigger. Hu-huh. I can't stand it, no wonder this film is so unappreciated. Okay, maybe it's not THAT horribly dreadful...what the hell am I saying? THis film SUCKED! SUCKED HORRIBLY! If you're going to see a film on the Sci-Fi channel, wait till this crap ends. It is way too long and it gets way too off topic. I mean, REALLY how the hell can I plot go from just a shark attacking people to a bloody walking beast? Tell me that people, TELL ME! This movie sucked louder than you can scream 'BLOODY CREATURE! BLOODY, BLOODY CREATURE!' I recommend this film, oh yeah. But first, put nails in your eyes and cut off your ears. I don't even want to rate this film. EW!

Of all the comments I've seen so far, not one person has mentioned the availability of this movie! Has it been released to DVD or is the production company holding it ransom. I'm a big fan of JAWS and thought the design and creation of the "creature" itself was outstanding. Human casts aside, that shark did it's job. Now years later, no one can find it on DVD. IF it is out there, could someone e-mail me ([email protected]) and let me know!? I am seriously interested in watching this movie again but have no way of finding it. So, please, if anyone knows anything about it being on DVD, please let me know. Thank you.

Remember those skits on Saturday Night Live in the 70's that had Chevy Chase as a walking shark that went door to door eating people? Well, any suspense this film might have been able to generate (note the use of the word "might") is obliterated once the titular creature is revealed to be...that very same walking shark. Except that this time it doesn't talk and the costume is slightly better (but only by the tiniest of increments). Am I the only one who noticed that Peter Benchley has only written one good book and then he just kept writing it over and over again, changing the attacking creatures just enough to warrant another book? "The Beast", "The Creature", they're all essentially "Jaws" retreads, only not nearly as good. Just ridiculous. Good for a laugh, though. Too bad "Mystery Science Theater" went off the air. They could have a blast with this.
