Two Girls and a Guy (1998)

The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.

A very talky but interesting movie about fidelity, female and male sexuality. Downey Jr, Graham and Wagner make this hot potato topic interesting and quite smart. We follow these three characters discussing and fight when it comes to what's right and wrong when it comes to romantic relationships. The style of the movie felt more like a play where the actors only are seen in two different "stages". The editing and camera-work was quite jarring.. other than that it fitted this tiny budget/independent 90s film. It also had the look of the first season of the iconic 90s TV-show Sex and the city in color, a bit in script and in the interior, but also the tiny look we get of New York reminded me of the mid- to late 90s New York that was so famously seen in the TV-show.

I came across this movie while reading up on Downey's biography. I must say I would have dismissed this movie if I had not known about Downey's history & how this movie was made. just 5 characters; 3 major & 2 minor, I didn't think I would last an hour. But, to my surprise, I did. Boy, oh boy! I quiet enjoyed it. The plot is simple - 2 girls are wait outside a building. They chat and in the process find out they share a common, 2-timing boyfriend. The rest of the movie is about how they confront him and how he reacts to being busted. Yes, it is chatty, yes, there are monologues, but, enjoyable and witty nevertheless. Downey carries the film with ease. One can relate to the plot. It can happen in everyday life. This is a refreshing take on the situation. We are treated not just with Downey's acting powers but also to his other gifts that are cleverly packaged in the movie. It does have a flavour of being a stage play but, that does not come in the way of the final experience.

At my local video rental store, they have a special place for Two Girls and a Guy. It's a long running joke really. The clerk lets people rent it for free. They value their customers too much to let them waste their hard earned money on it.I was extremely surprised to see that people gave this movie a good review. Maybe someone can explain it to me. (or maybe the positive comments were jokes? Did people involved with the movie write them? Perhaps the mother of the director/writer?)Maybe I've just seen so many good movies that this one fails in comparison.

For people who like a PLOT - rather than merely movies with sex, violence and the like - commonly found in the best-selling movies of the day, this movie is empty and I kept waiting for it to go somewhere. OK, so I only have an IQ of 137 (MENSA) - maybe I just didn't "get" it. I just didn't understand why the characters didn't take a "smart" direction. They, on the other hand, took the "day-time shock-jock talk show" direction (where we see people getting all worked-up after doing idiotic things, then "make-up" on-screen ... totally forgiving the one who did them wrong - without well thought-out discussion and pondering).I'm sure this film appeals to a certain audience (mentioned above), but for those of us who actually want a PLOT, it was a total waste of time. The acting was good? It had BETTER BE - for the millions they are paid.In conclusion, if you are "shallow", or like bisexuality and Ricky Lake or Jerry Springer - you'll LOVE this film. If you like movies with a good plot, skip this one.
