One of the most legendary adventures in all mythology is brought to life in Jason and the Argonauts, an epic saga of good and evil. As a mere boy Jason, the heir to the kingdom of Ancient Greece, witnesses the murder of his father at the hands of his ruthless uncle, Pelias. After narrowly escaping death, Jason flees his home and returns twenty years later to reclaim the throne. Upon learning of his return, Pelias sentences him to death. To save his life, Jason promises to deliver the most converted gift of the gods to his uncle - the Golden Fleece. Joined by the Argonauts, a stout-hearted crew of sailors, he embarks on a perilous voyage to capture the Fleece and fulfill his destiny.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

The 1963 film is an Epic that is hard to top. NBC did a fantastic job with this film - and I'm not a fan of most remakes but this film is worth while watching. Why do some reviewers all over the internet bash this film? Because of some slight changes from the 1963 film? Some say this 2000 version strays from the facts. What facts? Jason and the Argonauts is a MYTH!! -- A MYTH folks and not based on any "facts". So why nitpick this film? Nitpicking is based on what? The 1963 movie? Sure the 1963 version or take on the myth is good but this 2000 film is just as good.If you chose to watch this film, I'd advise you to make up your own mind and not try to compare this film to 1963. Just watch the film, enjoy it for what it is (a MYTH) and rate this film in it's own merit.CGI is NOT misused nor abused in anyway. Looks just as appealing as the claymation or stop motion of the 60s. Story is good, acting is good, and everything else about this 2000 movie is good. Why all the fuss? I personally like this version of the myth. It is an Epic in it's own right and I quite enjoyed watching it. This version is about 1 hour 15 minutes longer than that of the 1963 - it has more time to pack more into it.7.5/10

Everyone likes the vintage film the most, I was never really into the original, perhaps that is part of the reason that I think that "Jason 2000" is just fine, in fact I would call it a knockout way to begin the century! The year 2000 was not exactly swarming with quality content on the big or small screen, so "Jason 2000" holds a special place a being a "2000 highlight".I love nearly everything about this production, the fake CGI creatures do a bit of damage, but just about everything is fine. The whole cast, including Jason, is outstanding. I have a soft spot for fantastic sea adventures and the footage of the ship in danger is well filmed. There is even a bit of dark comedy involved in the way the bad guy kills people...it was funny to me at least. The DVD special features reveal that the production was rushed a bit too much, perhaps that explains why the Jason actor was not able to give everything he had to his performance. The actor complained that he was tired due to lack of sleep. Despite this issue, I was not bothered by his acting at all (but many other reviewers are bothered by him).A less talked about element is the high quality grand music score that plays over the show, giving some scenes a huge lift. Is there some reason that this kind of music is less used in film/TV these days?

I have been watching this movie on Hallmark Channel for about 5 years. It depicts an ancient story. Some of the characters are from the Ancient Greek Mythology. I am particularly interested in the character of Orpheus. If the viewer is too young and takes the movie as a source of his future culture and development, he'll be totally surprised when coming to Bulgaria and Greece and finding that the population there is mainly Caucasian and only few of it has blond hair and eyes. That is the insult that I am talking about. Orpheus could not be at all an African-American, or being representative of Africa. It is so ridiculous because everybody here in my country Bulgaria is generously laughing when seeing this movie. There is a name for a mountain which is situated 90 % in Bulgaria and only 10 % in Greece - the Rhodopi mountains or the Rhodopi, Rhodopa. It is called Orpheus' mountain. The cave of Trigrad in the heart of the mountain is the where he lost his love Euridice or Evridika. It is the same mountain where Rita Wilson's father was born. I think the producers would have to meet him and read, orientate a bit before placing an African-American actor to play Orpheus.

It's such a shame that Mystery Science Theater 3000 isn't made any more. This movie contains so many unintentionally funny lines that the script practically writes itself, but somehow you just know that Mike and the 'bots would crank it up to the next level, making fun of stuff that us mere mortals didn't even notice. And yes, Jason London's performance is every bit as bad as everyone says it is. I just couldn't take him seriously when he was supposed to come across as a leader of men, woodenly delivering his not very inspirational pep talks to the crew. Still, no film that features a fire-breathing robot bull can be all bad, I suppose.
