Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

This is a very great movie. The visual effects are great, the soundtrack is pretty much amazing and the 80's references work perfectly. Yes, this is not the book and the changes are obvious. The book is far better, but Spielberg worked hard to produce a fair adaptation and deliver a good movie. It's certainly funnier if you get the whole references to the 80's.

Basically it's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The eccentric owner of a company sets death trap puzzles and the young protagonist has to solve them to gain control of the company. Remember in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that a rich guy had his employees unwrap chocolate bars to find a golden ticket? Yeah, this one has a rival company use employees to play the video game, except the employees are debtors like in The Diamond Age --assuming that throwaway idea was still in the book after it was retitled; originally read it as an ARC when it was called A Young Lady's Primer or something like that. And that's the exact kind of geekdropping that this movie is chock-full of. So if you liked all the 80s nostalgia stuff in Atomic Blonde and you either don't make a lot of CGI or plan to watch it while doing housework (which is what I did, I watched it via you know who that starts with an n and ends with a flix) then you'll probably like it.

So, I am a huge fan of the book and was incredibly worried that the film would not keep in line the fun that the book had, or its about of references. Granted that if the film was to match the book then it would need to be a lot longer! Now, the film, I have watched through fully twice, the first time, I was bitterly disappointed a lot of major parts in the book had been left out, for example Z being captured and hacking IOI, the fallout and separation of Z and Artemis, and the whole way that the first key was found, I loved these parts of the book and was sad not to see them on the big screen. Watching it a second time however has changed my view, what Steven Spielberg has done is brought the Oasis to life, he certainly has made it his own and I have fallen in love with Ready Player One in a whole new way, to me its two seperate things, not a book-to-film. My biggest issue now is there were no Jaws references. Shame that.Thank you Ernest Cline, thank you Steven Spielberg.

A fantastic film from start to finish. Anyone who gives this less than 7 stars must lead a miserable life. 9 stars all day long
