This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

thought Tim Allen was the perfect guy to play the lead role,, Danny Glover and Robert Downey Jr. also did very well,, this movie was so funny, not just from a human standpoint but also the animal side,, sidenote,, if you have the DVD watch for the dog sing a long,, omg, it's awesome and totally funny I watched it with my dog,, but she wouldn't sing. our dog finds a home with a loving family and one day get'i s picked up by the evil dog catcher, there he is tested and guarded day and night, well the parents kid's won't stand for this as they miss there family dog very much, our dad somehow get's an injection of some sort and half of the movie his is human and the other half he is dog, I imagine this was definitely a hard one to pull off, I laughed at everything the dog had to say in this movie,, I own the original as well,, I kinda wish dogs could talk, because I always talk to my German Shepard everyday.

The Shaggy Dog is a very sprightly and spirited family comedy, that does rely on a lot of slapstick. As daft as it often is, it is endearing and funny, with a truly hilarious performance from Tim Allen as Dave Douglas, a pooch hating lawyer who is bitten by a dog and turns into one. There are a lot of chuckles to be had, particularly Dave's new habits and also when he chases a cat on all fours. But the highlight is the ending, which is wonderfully wacky, thanks to a great pantomimic turn from Robert Downey Jnr as the villain of the piece, especially when he goes literally barking mad. The film is also compensated by a nice soundtrack, a witty screenplay and some truly inspired moments of physical comedy. In fact, in my personal opinion, the only things wrong with this film was the perhaps too leisurely direction and the slushy family values moralising. All in all, a very funny and underrated family comedy. 8/10 Bethany Cox

I really enjoyed this movie. I can't believe right now it has a 3.5. Does anyone enjoy a good movie anymore? I am 44 and my mother is 76 and we absolutely loved this movie. Touching, funny, messages about family, good special effects on the animals, I would say this is just as good for adults as it is for kids. Why can't movies be something to sit down for 90 minutes and just be enjoyed anymore? I am assuming some of the ratings are from teens which brought down the rating. No swearing, killing, sex or blood, so it's a piece of junk to them. Wholesome entertainment is junk to most of them. Tim does an excellent job as does Robert Downey Jr, and the rest of the cast. This is a quality family film. I highly suggest it to everyone with a sense of humor and someone who has a heart and believes in family.

This was better than I thought it would. By no means was it great comedy, but it was entertaining for a kids film. I found myself laughing a few times because it was so silly. Tim Allen, plays, Dave, an assistant DA lawyer working on a case against a company testing on animals. He gets bitten by a dog that escaped from there, and it sends his life spinning out of control. He now turns into a dog, a shaggy sheepdog and as a human, is always using dog like traits, like growling, scratching, chasing cats.Being a dog helps him understand his kids more since they talk openly. He learns his son doesn't like football and wants to be on stage. And his daughter is worried about divorce. So, it brings the family closer. And Dave puts an end to Dr. Kozak's evil plan and saves the day.FINAL VERDICT: Silly, but entertaining for kids.
