A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

ZERO WOMAN R is a very cheap, shot on video version of a popular Japanese exploitation series that's been going since the 1970s. The story is about an undercover female cop who goes gunning for the underworld. I should warn viewers that the version available for viewing on Amazon Prime has been shorn of 15 minutes or so and thus contains no sex or nudity whatsoever. The resultant film is very low key, poorly subtitled and lacking in interest, a simple police procedural with little life or momentum. It's quite a pointless watch, really.

This film starts out with two female prisoners making out while a prison guard secretly watches. The guard then gets too close to the cell and the special agent for Section Zero known as "Rei" (Atsuko Miura) who was posing as one of the prisoners subdues him allowing both females to escape. They immediately drive to a secret location where the other female has a meeting with two of her accomplices. Rei then shoot and kills all three of them. However, after killing the third person a police inspector named "Hayama" (Masaki Miura) happens to arrive which subsequently causes problems for his superiors and Section Zero. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this particular picture had more scenes of a sexual nature and less violence than the previous film, "Zero Woman 2005". It also had a more complicated plot which involved a female assassin named "Yuki" (Sasa Handa) and some corrupt government officials working with the American military in a smuggling operation. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this particular movie is apparently the tenth and last film in the series. Of course, considering that there was a 21-year gap between the 1st and 2nd films of this series I suppose anything is possible and another might be produced eventually. In any case, this turned out to be a decent entry into the series and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.

Zero Woman 2 was the first Asian erotica I'd seen and I've been hooked ever since. I stumbled upon this installment in the series and according to IMDb, it's the latest (last?) Zero Woman is on the trail of a large organized crime ring that has links to the US Military. Also accidentally on the trail is a male police officer. The rest of the plot didn't make sense to me, either because of the poor subtitles, or because I was too distracted by the physical beauties on display here. Rei (Atsuko Miura) is a serious, cold blooded assassin who manages to get out of jail with a lesbian tryst as a distraction and later makes passionate love with the police detective. She looks all natural to me and is lithe, thin, and lovely to look at. the other young lady is probably enhanced but still very natural looking. She displays her skills with one of her victims (killed Basic Instinct style) and with a priest. Both scenes show her beautiful form and wow, I've got to find out her name. Other than the stabbing death there's very little violence to speak of. Even the end where Rei is tied up and stripped naked, it's more the threat of harm to her than anything else that is displayed. Pinku violence fans will be disappointed. 6/10 because the two young ladies are super lovely to look at. The plot? I guess you don't want to mess with the central gov't and the Americans.
