The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Really there aren't too many things I can say for this movie. It is "filmed" in a strange way with multiple go-pro-like cameras among the usual and has a tiresome fast way of doing things. The direction of photography is as expected strange, the dialogs are dull and the character development non-existent. IMO the actors were a bad cast too.As I'm reading was universally panned by critics and audience and it was a nominee for the 2014 Golden Raspberry Awards.Soooo....the verdict is obvious and you should avoid this movie even when it's on free TV.A movie experiment that failed...

This film was absolutely atrocious with a stupid ending. I like Selena Gomez but she was awful and irritating, her acting was poor. The film plot sounded interesting when I read it before I watched the film, but it didn't fulfil. They could of made the film so much better, and what a surprise the main bad man rang him at the end and wasn't even dead!!!! So clique. I lost track of what was going on in the film an hour in where I was so bored ha. I guess at least the driving scenes were okay to watch.I feel like I just wasted a few hours of my life watching this junk. I don't know or understand how anyone can give this a good rating, sorry.

I saw this movie at Regal Cinemas at Kingston with my friend and father and unlike many other people, I thought it was great including the acting from Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez. This movie has one of Gomez' underrated roles while her role from Hotel Transylvania as overrated. For example, Selena Gomez' character from Getaway says "Holy s" rather than "Holy rabies." The movie would have been better with a different director like James Cameron or Martin Scorsese. The dialog was well written but the action scenes were not well written. I think that people should watch Getaway more than once to understand what I'm saying. It may seem weird at first, but it actually is hardcore. I made a parody of one scene from this movie featuring footage from Nightmare Before Christmas and Hotel Transylvania. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSpPbdFGN4E

This has to be one of the worst movies from 2013. It's barely 90 minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Basically, the movie is just one long chase scene with a few breaks for pointless dialogue. There is no depth to the characters and the story is really lame. Ethan Hawke plays a former race car driver who has to steal a car and follow instructions from a mostly unseen villain in order to save his wife. Throw Selena Gomez into the mix, who may or may not have something to do with the villain's true motives, and you have a poorly acted, sorry excuse for a "film". The central gimmick of the movie is that the car is fitted with a bunch of cameras, which means that you get a bunch of weird camera angles and HD video-looking (read: poor quality) photography from all sorts of video/surveillance feeds. Not only that, but it's edited very haphazardly (shots are never held for more than a couple of seconds) and the space in which the action takes place is never clearly defined. Then there's the villains, which are your standard cliché Eastern European villains, the chief one played by Jon Voight and whose face is never shown in its entirety (ashamed, maybe?). Not only that, but this movie was shot on the cheap in Bulgaria, and it shows. Overall, there's nothing at all good about this film, save for a single song: Jingle Bell Rock (for some inexplicable reason, this movie takes place during Christmas, although I distinctly remember this movie coming out in the fall). For those of you who remember, Jingle Bell Rock was used as the opening song to LETHAL WEAPON, which was produced by Joel Silver (and who also produced this dud, so maybe he ripped himself off). Obviously, a single soundtrack cut isn't enough to warrant watching a movie, so your best option would be to "Getaway" from this at all costs.
