As a fan of Albert Camus and Jean-Luc Godard, teenage Nick Twisp is definitely out of his element when his mother and her boyfriend move the family to a trailer park. When a pretty neighbor named Sheeni plays records by French crooners, it's love at first sight for frustrated and inexperienced Nick. Learning that she is dating someone, Nick launches a hilarious quest to find his way into Sheeni's heart -- and bed.

A different way of telling a story

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Youth in revolt is a quirky, bittersweet slightly offbeat dark comedy starring Michael Cera as a 16 year old Nick Twisp. He lives with his MILF mom in a trailer with her no good trucker boyfriend Jerry (cameo by Zach Galifianakis). His dad (Steve Buscemi) has a much younger and stunning girlfriend and the child support he sends is used up by his mother.Nick meets Sheeni Saunders, a well educated girl from a religious family and an All American boyfriend. Like many teenagers, Nick wants to have sex and he wants to have sex with Sheeni. The trouble is Nick is too safe, nerdy and boring. To take on the boyfriend he creates a rebellious and exotic alter ego called Francois Dillinger.Francois causes trouble and before long Nick is on the run from the police and getting involved in all sorts of misadventures. The film is certainly quirky and sporadically funny thanks to Cera's dual performance and supported by supporting actors who all make glorified cameos such as Fred Willard, Justin Long, Ray Liotta and M Emmett Walsh. The trouble is it never amounts to much than a cynical quirky film featuring some horny nerdy youths, they even throw in some animation segments. Its OK but it should be more than that.

Sometimes we have imaginary friends. But I guess most of them are not like Francois. How people act in desperate situations? They run away or find help. And what if no one can help you? Well, in that case you can do what Nick did - create your helper. Of course, it would be great if he weren't so destructive. Yes, destruction is fun at movies, but how much can be tolerated in reality. I mean, it's always fun to watch a movie with such a bad-ass as Francois, but would you actually like him if he was your classmate? How much revolution is enough to show to everybody that you are not a part of the system, that you are unique? These questions might be hard to answer, as it depends on each individual and community that individual lives and evolves in. Revolution for some already might be skipping class. Showing that you are unique and that only you can control yourself for some might be getting a tattoo. But what if you want to show that you are unique but you are put into a square border? Greeks have a saying that if you want to be brave, you have to act brave. So if you want to be unique you actually have to act unique? Well, we already are very different from one another, we already are unique. I don't think there is one specific reason why people revolt (if there is, feel free to correct me). But I believe that it is always possible to make your point with less destructive means. And one more thing - Michael Cera was brilliant in completing two completely different personalities in one movie.

This film was a big thrill for me. i did not expect it to be so good. It is a unique flick. I like it boldness, in terms where screenwriters can take u. It reminded me of Kevin Smiths film Red State which based itself on giving the viewer what he expected the least. I advise this film to all because it such a fun break from all the sequels, prequels and other clichéd garbage Hollywood feed us now days.Cast did a good job transitioning book into movie, Cers's best performance(also great in Scott Pilgrimm vs the World) I watched this film never knowing it is based on the book, bet your ass i'm gonna read it now.it is my first review, the only other film that i wanted to write review for is In Bruges, but it is already received pretty good and this movie is underrated for some reason. Sorry for my bad English, i am Russian.

trying to lose his virginity. Michael Cera plays the nerd yet again; this time he is Nick Twisp. He lives with his mom and her live in boyfriend. They go to a trailer park for a week where Nick meets Sheeni, the girl of his dreams. He invents this French alter ego (he's French because Sheeni is obsessed with anything French) that comes up with these plans to try to get kicked out of his house so he can live with his dad, whom lives close to Sheeni. So the alter ego steels and starts fires and Nick gets his wish. Only problem is Sheeni is now going to a private French school. So Nick has to devise more evil plans to try to be with her. His plans are crazy and silly which is what makes the movie funny.FINAL VERDICT: A teen film with some laughs, a good choice if nothing else is on.
