Truly Dreadful Film
Good , But It Is Overrated By Some
Absolutely brilliant
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Abigail Scanlon (Raven-Symoné), Parker Wald (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), and Rachel Phipps (Chryssie Whitehead) are lifelong friends. As kids, they were befriended by rich Caitlyn McNabb (Virginia Williams) and her gold-digging mother Olivia (Beth Broderick). Abigail goes on to write a successful book. Parker is a struggling NY actress. Rachel stayed home with longterm boyfriend Tony Penning. Abigail and Parker go home shocked to find Caitlyn's expected groom to be Tony and a humiliated Rachel as her bridesmaid. Olivia is on her fourth marriage. Local cop Henry Kent is taken with Parker. Abigail and Parker vow to sabotage the wedding from the inside.Despite coming before Bridesmaids, this can't help being overshadowed by its more famous cousin. Raven and JoAnna are functional TV comedic actresses. They should be getting into all kinds of irreverent hijinx but they are often hampered by sad sack Rachel's story. It needs to be more fun than this.
Revenge of the Bridesmaids is an inoffensive, zippy film with some broad acting and even broader comedy.Raven plays Abigail Scanlon and Joanna Garcia is Parker Wald who return to their hometown and learn that their old friend has lost her boyfriend to another friend, Caitlin who is also a conniving gold digger pretending to be pregnant in order to marry him. They go undercover as Caitlin's bridesmaids in order to sabotage the wedding but it goes rather awry. Nevermind that the groom who has left one woman and gone out with her friend comes across as a douche bag.Raven is energetic with her comedy but its also a bit silly and infantile. As its an ABC family comedy it does lack a satirical edge.
This is a great movie! My youngest (6) and I watch it a lot. It's funny, simple story line, and satisfying. Two childhood friends make a trip back home and find their third friend lost her love to the fourth of their group. Through hilarious encounters and flubs, they find the truth and turn the tables on the evil not-so-great-friend with an ultimate revenge that encompasses the entire town.During their escapades, one finds love, one confronts her weight, and other learns to stand up for what's hers. And one learns...you can't have everything. My favorite quote: "That b.... That bii.. THAT BIIIIIIIITCH!!!" I can't get it perfect, but it's so funny.
I happened to catch this movie a while back and gave it a shot because I like Raven-Symone and Beth Broderick. Of course, with this movie you need to keep in mind that it's an ABC Family original movie, so it'd be silly to have high expectations.Yes, I noticed a big issue 20 minutes before the characters did, and knew exactly how things would turn out for the bridesmaids halfway through the movie, but I still enjoyed it. No, the movie will probably not wow you. I honestly can't remember laughing a single time throughout (but I think the "Saw" movies are funny, so that probably says something.) The acting was fine, and the plot was just okay, but I did like the Raven and Joanna Garcia dynamic. In my opinion, it was just a pretty standard ABC Family TV movie. If you enjoy this type, you'll probably like it. If not, you won't.
