It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

I am super pumped to watch 2017's My Little Pony movie. It's gonna have both a really good story and tons of epic action, even more after the show made its characters extremely complex and grow throughout the series. However, the first Equestria Girls has none of that charm. While the show was meant to be timeless, soon after the 2017 movie Equestria Girls won't just be remembered for its backlash, it simply won't be remembered period. Now I've got a laundry list of things wrong with the movie.-The story plays out like every girly thing ever.-Ten million high school clichés. -Exposition, exposition, rush it out ASAP. -EVERYONE in the movie is an idiot. Seriously, that crown has no protection and Twilight doesn't even use her magic to guard it while she's still a pony?!? -The longer the movie goes on, the more obvious it is that it had to be padded out to fill 70 minutes. -Flash Sentry is a flat, cliché character. If he was removed, little to nothing would change.-Technology references. Email, texts, Youtube...this movie will become more dated as time goes on. -Unmemorable generic pop songs. Minutes after hearing one, I totally forgot it. Meanwhile, Elsa's Let it Go from Frozen had a FAR greater impact than all songs in the Equestria Girls series combined. -The simple use of a generic high school setting is EXTREMELY limiting. Star Wars and Lord of The Rings knew better than this and are set in their own potential universes instead. -The final (and only) fight in the entire movie lasts only a few seconds.-Sub-conflicts that are over in two minutes and never brought up again.-Multiple scenes that don't advance the plot.-LOGIC, FOR PETE'S SAKE! IF ANYONE IN THAT SCHOOL HAD A BRAIN, TWILIGHT WOULD HAVE NO CHANCE AT WINNING BACK THE CROWN! Nor would Sunset Shimmer's reign of terror last more than ten minutes. -Twilight says "Equestria will find a way to survive without my element." Ugh...-Very obvious Deus ex Machina at the end. -ALMOST NO ACTION. Lack of action drags away lots of fun. This becomes far more obvious after watching a lot of Disney and Dreamworks movies. Hell, even a single episode of EG's parent show has more action than this entire movie!Of all the Equestria Girls movies, I was only impressed with Rainbow Rocks. The first was garbage, and Friendship Games had absolutely forgettable "villains"! (For Pete's sake, no more one shot villains. 3's failed to live up to 2's, leaving very little impact.) I'm done with this series and skipping Legends of Everfree! Want a great story, smarts, and action? Then please go watch Big Hero 6 for the Nth time instead of Equestria Girls.

Since two thousand and ten, MLP:FIM is many people considered a masterpiece of flash animation. Definitely not your average flash animation from Newgrounds. This show proves that friendship is a powerful weapon. Even if Lauren Faust said that she wanted this show to be for little girls. But getting its self a fan base is even better. This is the reason why I wanna try flash animation in a new way. But, as popular as it gets, some people wouldn't be surprised if these ponies went off the high school.I'm not saying it's a bad film, but I just wished it could've been a bit more clever. But it does give Twilight Sparkle a specific goal. She doesn't just recover crown from a former student of Celestia's, but to take friendship to a whole new level. Twilight has always been my favorite character. I can relate to her at times. You would want to stand with her, she has a reason to inspire those who believe in magic. But back on to the film, I had a bit mixed feelings about it.The Story: It's smooth enough, even if got a bit random in the climax. The Animation: It's well crafted, but the designs to seem a bit hit missed at times. But it's still harmless to look at. Plus, they did keep the ponies designs in the beginningThe Characters: Twilight and the Mane Five are still the same, and we love em. The principals of CHS seem okay but make feel like they've never been in charge of high school before. The villain is okay too, but most people would never get the rest of her origins other then she was a former pupil back in Equestria. The boyfriend does seem a bit of a pointless cliché, he's only seen for short times. But to his credit he does seem like good gentleman for a princess. Just be lucky that he didn't show up in the real show. The Songs: I find most of them quite catchy and reasonable, my favorite happens to be Strange New World. It's nice to see someone singing a characters thoughts again, since Phil Collins' song Strangers Like Me in Disney's Tarzan. Even if the lyrics are a bit simple. The Rules of Magic: When people first saw the magic moments in the climax, they kinda had no idea why that happen. But from what I can gather I guess is that Sunset had no control of the magic in the crown, so she pretty much didn't know how to use it. And yet, she was happy with her demon form. I was like a side affect. As for the transformation of the mane six, they were like magnet for the element of magic. Twilight would say that the magic contained in her element was able to unite with those that helped create it. So maybe the humane five represent them? Maybe. But the ending does still seem a bit random. Either way, I still kinda enjoyed it.The MLP series could've been better off without a spin off, but for what is, it's actually kinda good. I wouldn't call a masterpiece like the actual show, but it does seem decent enough to be magical as always. Some fans may love or hate this, they all have opinions. But that's pretty much the end of this review.Try to check it out, it might be your cup of tea.

***********MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS************* Friendship is Magic takes the step on to the big screen in a fashion very typical to the times and the company that runs it, but still manages to feel outdated on many planes. The franchise dares play a wild card if only for the matter of about an hour, but still plays it incredibly safe with almost no surprises along the way.The lovable ponies from the magical and mythical land of Equestria (or one of them, technically speaking) travels through a portal in pursuit of something of great importance into the human world and takes on the challenges of high school. The movie serves one purpose, and it is sadly not for the greater good of the show it represents, though it is clear that the team working on the movie worked hard with the material given to them.Once the great change of environment occurs, about ten minutes into the movie, the animation takes a considerable and notable dent compared to the fluency one is used to see from the show, but it is something one gets used to eventually. The music, which soon after makes its introduction, plays on the most generic strings imaginable for the setting. At least the music sets a tone for the movie that gives it a certain atmosphere all the way through. But Daniel Ingram, the songwriter for Friendship is Magic, can do much better than this. Most of the reintroduced characters are well portrayed, but the new ones are paper thin, barely qualifies for three dimensions, and are almost reduced to nothing but plot points or concept fodder. The overarching plot is the trillionth of its kind and is full of bad contrivances that somehow leads up to a rather bombastic, and for the movie uncharacteristic, finale. It is still something that fans of the show would have seen coming miles away, however. Plotpoints set up from the beginning of the movie are almost never commented on, and are resolved with little relevancy to the events that occur. The biggest question one might have when finishing the movie is what the point of it all actually was. The only character who learned anything from the experience was Twilight Sparkle, since all the other characters were copies of the actual characters who weren't there to experience the events with her, and the lesson she learned was not a big one, or something she did not know before. It is hard to see a point to a movie as bland as this, unless you are a die hard fan of the franchise. The movie is not completely devoid of entertainment value, it is not a movie that will make you wish you had decided to do something much better with your time that day, but ultimately, it leaves little to nothing of value for any viewer. In the end, it feels like making a good movie was the least of all priorities when this movie was conceptualized.

As much as I like friendship is magic, I am not really fond of this one. Sadly, this just feels like a cop out to sell more products then something that actually works with the series. It brings me a bit of disappointment that they would do something so low as to give in to the marketing ploy. It feels like they tried to make 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen' again. It's just how Barbie made 'The Barbie Diaries'. Just a school life story. It's a bit sad since it doesn't have the same feeling that went along with the TV show. Sure it has a bit of the 'be yourself' but then the characters seem a little like they are not being themselves next to what they were in the pony world.Anther thing that bothers me is that they never explain where Twilight lives after going through the mirror. I understand if she was there for a day but she is there for a while. There are little details like that that seem to mess with my head although maybe not for children. They also add a character that wasn't in the TV show just for romance aspect. The animation feels very wonky, with stiff characters, proportionate bodies, and even the strange color choices for the characters. For example, Twilight has purple skin. I have nothing against people with purple skin mind you… but um, you get what I'm saying? It's a very unnatural look and just makes it look like it was forced. There were so many other things they could do to make it look like Twilight, her hair, her personality, the cutie mark… anything but that! And while I'm at it, why do all the girls have to wear dresses? Even the tomboys wear dresses like Rainbow Dash. It just feels like they messed up there. Characters who are rather sporty do not normally wear skirts every day. I know this for a fact that. It just feels old fashioned then. It works when they have parties and stuff, just not for school. Every character wears short skirts is what I got from it.The voices and music were good and pretty much just like the TV show. That's the one thing I thought was good about it. They made it the same on that scope. The music was catching and new beat, the voices were not fully annoying and matched the characters that they needed to sound like. Not much else I can really say there. The script it what seems a little forced in my mind. It just feels a little unnatural at points.
