I never saw the movie as a remake more like a new version just for the laughs. I think is really funny, the kind of comedy that were good. People forget the movie is not to make an exactly or same genre as the original, it was made to be ridiculously funny. Let's pretend that the first movie does not exist, is this one still bad? Of course not, because the story would be 100% original, although it is ridiculous in certain aspects. But because there is an original version people can not avoid comparing them. Which I find stupid. As I said, the idea of this new version was not to be the same as the first one. Go watch the movie and enjoy it because is good.

Trying to remake this story as a comedy was obviously a stupid idea. Creating a remake to be significantly different from the original is one thing; to change the genre completely doesn't work.Nicole Kidman has acted very well in many roles - but she's awful in this.

The Stepford Wives (2004): Dir: Frank Oz / Cast: Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, Christopher Walken, Glenn Close: Remake of the 1975 thriller only this time director Frank Oz chose to play this as a dark comedy. It is a film about image and the idea that these wives are so radiant. Nicole Kidman stars as a successful T.V. producer who is fired when one of her participants goes on a killing rampage. Her husband decides to move them to Stepford where "there is no crime, poverty or pushing." It is a place lined with beautiful mansions and women who are just too artificial. Another achievement by Oz who also made Bowfinger and What About Bob? Kidman is superb as a woman surviving a nervous breakdown and learning that true love is never artificial. Matthew Broderick is well cast as her husband who is adopted into the Stepford Men's Club. Bette Midler steals scenes as a cynical novelist. Christopher Walken plays the head citizen who shelters a secret that won't be revealed here. Glenn Close plays the female who seems to second the Walken character and does so with a lot of spirit. Beautiful sets and art direction highlight despite a plot concept that isn't probable due to operation and effect. The film exposes consumerism and the reality that everybody has flaws and defects. It also exposes bad traditions and the reality that no place on earth is this pleasant. Score: 9 / 10

Stepford has been Stepfordized. Pretty much all of the original satire, bite, and menace has been drained from the original source material, leaving behind a defanged, lame, near romantic comedy. This pale imitation might pass with people completely unfamiliar with the book or the first movie, but the rest of us can sense a living, breathing production that has been replaced by a soulless robot. I guess that is what they call meta nowadays. Nicole Kidman plays a cold fish (not too difficult), and Matthew Broderick plays a sad sack (not too difficult either). Hold on, on second thought, maybe they're both robots too. I mean in real life. Uh oh, maybe everyone around me are robots too. Now I'm starting to get worried. Wow, the philosophical zombie problem. And I didn't think that this movie was deep. What do I do? How can I tell? I've got to start thinking. In the meantime, I hope this below average time-waster keeps the robots distracted, while I work out what to do before they realize I'm on to them. Maybe I'd better rate this a 5? But that might be too obvious. Maybe a 4? Now, I'm really confused.
