The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

This was such a long and period movie. Hrithik is overconfident, sexy, stylish. He gets to show off his body to his rajput wife. Aishwarya has no make up which makes her look naive and pretty. I still don't know if this movie made it as box office hit in India or not. It was so long that it should be seen only once. Hrithik acting was good and fight scenes were impressive but you need a lot of patience to see this movie. Their chemistry rocks again after dhoom 2. I feel that hrithik was too perfect acting in this movie(can be bad,can be good) The songs have to be good and composed well by A R rehman. It can be predictable movie for some.

The movie is based on the time during the mughal dynasty. Jallaludin Mohammed Akbar is one of the most powerful rulers. He was crowned at a very young age. Years later he married a Rajput princess Jodhaa (Aiswarya Rai) who happens to be in a different religion. They try to be good and comfortable with each other that's when more problems arise from the enemies.Jodhaa Akbar has a good storyline but has unnecessary dragging. The movie lasts for about three and half hours in that manner. And it was completely unnecessary. Like Hrithik Roshan takes about five minutes to go from one room to another. And during the wedding scene Aiswarya Rai is sitting there and the camera pans in taking about five minutes. Only in the second half the film becomes more lively.Songs are excellent like jashn e bahara, khwaja mere khwaja. They had that touch of the old days including the lyrics. A.R Rahman did well in both song's music direction as well as the background score. The performance were very good from all the actors. Overall Jodhaa Akbar is a good movie. It is not an entertainer. Fans of Hrithik Roshan and Aiswarya Rai will like this film. 8/10

who would have thought Bollywood could sustain your interest for over 3 hours! But Ashutosh Gowariker has put together a killer screenplay. Some songs are slow (notably the 6th/last song is trite) but music man AR Rahman is FANTASTIC. The costumes are ON THE MARK. Not chintzy, this is what was historically worn. The battle of Panipat, where the movie opens is actually either CGI or some set. Panipat in Haryana, India is flat and green, NOT DESSERT. Also, let me state that Hrithik Roshan is the ONLY guy in bollywood who could pull off the lead role of Akbar with class. People forget the Mughals WERE FOREIGNERS. All the issues raised are still pertinent today! Church v. State Fun movie. India's "gone with the wind".

As an American I knew little of this story or Emperor but had heard of the Moghuls. It doesn't matter if it wasn't exact because it is based on a happening. The movie is for entertainment so it doesn't have to be exactly historically correct. It was not a documentary. Both of the leads were absolutely excellent in their roles. I was very impressed and especially by Hrithik Roshon. He is an excellent actor. I know little about the Bollywood movies but this one mesmerized me once I figured out how to turn on the subtitles.I really liked the humor that was added to this movie. The part with the sword fighting and the irony of what how she lost to Akbar was funny. The line where he reminds her he is her husband going along with the sword fight. Many eye contact gestures between the two that were so touching and at times comical.I really loved the Sufis and their singing in the movie. It was a nice blend of action, and romance. I like the fact they kept it in good taste and did not dwell on bloody battles or steamy love scenes between the Princess and the Emperor when they finally admitted their love for each other. It got the point across very romantically but tastefully and you don't see that much anymore in most movies. Kudos to those who made this great, great movie. It is well worth anyone's time to watch. It is an opulent and very enjoyable movie.
