This outrageous time-travel comedy follows the misadventures of a wacky medieval knight (Jean Reno) and his faithful servant when they are accidentally transported to contemporary times by a senile sorcerer. Mayhem rules as these 12th-century visitors try adapting to the wildly confusing modern world. To avoid being stuck here for good, however, they soon begin an all-out cosmic assault on their former castle -- now a luxury hotel -- in their quest to return to the past.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

I love French comedy movies. They are always a bit silly and straight- forward at times, but for me it beats the nonsense and obscene you typically find in Hollywood's comedies. In those American movies, the characters are either too stupid, so stupid that they have no common sense at all, or they are just too smart that they response with carefully thought line that normal people would have taken a while to think of. And if you watch a lot of movies like me, these punchy lines are repeated over and over again. I remember I enjoyed this very movie when it aired on TV 10-20 years ago. I have a tendency not to re-watch movies, but I laughed so much when watching this movie again. It definitely earns my recommendation.

They keep trying, but I can't find a single joke in this film that actually works. The film does not know how to slow down. It is like an extremely noisy and hyperactive child that will not stop creating a mess. People shout, break things, engage in endless conversations in which neither side knows what the other is talking about... Things explode, lightnings strike... And yet I am utterly bored and I want to personally grab the protagonists by the neck and choke them to death.I have to say that I'm pretty sure I missed some of the points due to the fact that I was reading subtitles in English. I am also aware that the humour is built around the French culture, which again means that some of the jokes went over my head. Nevertheless, there is no excuse for this film being so incredibly dull and outright irritating. There is not a single scene where people aren't shouting. Shouting does not equate comedy, be it France or Mongolia.Unless, of course, the French have the weirdest sense of humour on the planet. In any event, I advise all people to stay away from this film. It is absolutely atrocious. Watching this is pure torture.

"O-Kayyy!" - one of the many phrases that stick in one's subconscious from this film; more on that shortly As every one else has pointed out, this a time travel film but it is done with such a deftness of touch that it makes some Hollywood offerings look clumsy by comparison. The film is subtitled but the translation have been done with terrific skill. My French is just about up to the dialogue and who-ever did the work has managed to keep the humour throughout. I like the film so much that I even bought a DVD copy of both Les Visiteurs 1 and 2. Returning to "O-Kayyy!" - I was on a very busy Aires de Service in France. I was asked if I wanted the water tap turning off and without thinking shouted the reply of "O-Kayyy!" Two French, One Dutch and one German couple all collapsed with laughter. Later that evening we ran Les Visiteurs 1 on the laptop for them. The result is four friendships that have endured for more than 6 years Yes, Les Visiteurs 1 and 2are truly cinematic greats

I'm french, and i gotta say that i'm really pleased with all the positive comments and feedbacks about this movie, who has become cult in my country. Pretty simple starting idea, making a middle-age knight and his servant time-travel to nowadays, but the result is extremely funny. What i want to say is also that, and many people mentioned it, a huge part of the humor in the movie comes from the mix of the modern french and this old time french language which is extremely funny to hear, cause we (french) aren't used to hear it often. As for the acting, well its amazing : the duo Reno/Clavier just made this movie great, but the supporting characters are also very good (Lemercier, etc ..)A lot of lines in this movie have become famous in my country ("Merci la gueuse ! T'es un laideron mais t'es bien bonne !"), and just by reminding of this movie, i'm laughing out loud, alone in front of my screen :DOne of the best french comedy ever.
