Lil and Roz are two lifelong friends, having grown up together as neighbors in an idyllic beach town. As adults, their sons have developed a friendship as strong as that which binds their mothers. One summer, all four are confronted by simmering emotions that have been mounting between them, and each find unexpected happiness in relationships that cross the bounds of convention.

What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

I have not read the book, so I don't know if the failure comes from it or from the screenplay. But the ending of the film, to me, is utterly unconvincing, and destroys the good impression I had of it.I can't believe for a second that Tom and Lil are stupid enough to think they can get away with copulating while everybody is at Roz. It is utterly unbelievable, as the film has made it clear throughout that they had more than an IQ of 60.Conversely, I can't believe they are evil enough to have done it on purpose, to destroy two families. In addition, I find it hard to believe that all the following are true at the same time: A. Tom decides to be unfaithful to his wife just weeks after his marriage. B. Lil is fine with it and a willing participant. C. Neither Roz nor Tom have any inkling of the affair happening under their nose, with people they know like no other. D. Tom is such a coward that he is fine with being unfaithful, doesn't break up his marriage as soon as possible, doesn't break it up at the beginning of his wife pregnancy nor after his daughter is born.Otherwise, the film is fine. Naomi Watts and Robin Wright are perfect, the sons are very good, as is Ben Mendelsohn and the other characters. The photography is top not. The music is rather boring and uninspired though.

My husband and I watched this movie and completely fell in love again. What is age when love is involved? It's love all the same. It made us feel the depth of loving someone very strongly regardless of age. The characters were well matched. The scenery was absolutely perfect in creating the serenity and overall peacefulness that was achieved by these lovers. I have recommended this movie to my adult family and friends of all ages. I have now come to realize that loving adults should not be judged because they don't fall in the typical couple category. In this world of strife and hate, love should be realized by all regardless of age, race or sex. Where there is love, there shouldn't be pain.

I've read many reviews from critics who don't digest this movie for the diversity and perspective it deserves. I ask that when you decide to watch this movie, give it your full attention and pay mind to the smallest of details, the director was very mindful of the smallest of gestures. There aren't many movies that approach the concept behind Adore that are done so in this very beautiful manner. The numerous metaphors and overlapping really set a specific perspective that pleads for open-mindedness.--- spoilers----Two mothers grow up as very close friends in a rather isolated lifestyle with minimal external stimuli. The opening scene is that of these two youthful looking women adoring their sons as these "greek gods," if you will. With one distant father and another non-present; this quadriad has spent an infinite amount of time becoming attached to each other. In addition, the women are foreshadowed as having a sort of "lesbian" relationship, even though that's not exactly the case. There is definitely a certain amount of adoration occurring between the two mothers a well. Thus, when they become entangled in each others sons, the crazy, beautiful, and yet destructive tsunami of adoration begins. They do this, for two years. They keep their secretive loves to themselves. Functioning as four friends, four lovers, two mothers, two sons. They all care about each other so deeply, that is becomes a very isolated relationship. When it is questioned and tried towards the middle, we see their relationships break. We watch some of them become destructive. It's this very strange relationship, that in this day in age, we do not accept as realistic. However, there are many circumstances in which the way we develop love is rather view unnatural. And the way this falls apart and back together is strange and amazing. It really makes one re-evaluate the destructiveness of this kind of love and what it can really do to your life. If it's worth such a sacrifice.

There are so many levels to this movie that it would be impossible to do it justice in a review. It is rare for me to be riveted to the screen, give my overall negative attitude towards movies in general and the television (where I see most movies) in particular. So when I encounter something that fires my imagination to the extent that I want to watch it more than once, it deserves all the praise I can give it.The story is so well written and the acting so expertly performed, it is very difficult to find an area that could be improved upon...or even if I would want to if I could.Above all else, a subject that is - to most of us - a taboo, is handled in a very sensitive and respectful manner. At no point did I feel that it was in any way "grotty" or dirty.Of course, I am acutely aware of the fact that the "moms" in this movie are very attractive indeed....I'm not sure that "dude, I boned your mom" with said mom looking like a tree-pig in a bad mood, would work anywhere near as well (unfair though that is).All in all, a fantastic movie, polished and presented in a very thought provoking way.
