Who payed the critics
Lack of good storyline.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Blistering performances.
It's mostly the two main characters making out interspersed with other stuff that may or may not matter or make sense. The good reviews here are REALLY a stretch. Ends with the words "I miss you" .....but who cares.
Short, Sweet and to the Point...if you ever want to see a Film that will make you Think, and make you a little Sad...this is it! If you ever want to see a Film where the premise, promise, characters and story...pull you in, this is it! If you ever want to see a Film where you Feel, without being Forced, this is it!CODE 46 doesn't try hard, beg or gimmick you into caring about the outcome of these doomed Lovers...you just will!*Spoiler Alert*...and you're left with this thought. What would it be like to be Hopelessly in Love with Someone, Who was also Hopelessly in Love with You...but No Longer Knew It?
in a strange manner, it is a gem. a Sci Fi in a romantic - cruel manner. a memorable atmosphere - mixture between alcohols and fragile velvet. its key - the acting. and the look of Samantha Morton. a film about basic truth. emotions, love, search, resistance against society cages. drawing of ordinary life, it can be a kind of poem. because the beauty and force of images are frame for a story about each viewer. Tim Robbins is the same. precise exploration of nuances, science of detail, silhouette of feelings. and the memories for many negative utopia. must see it ! only for the taste of few events - bones of ordinary existence in new light, with gentle delicacy
Code 46 is difficult to judge. Tim Robbins does a good job. Every minute with him is worth watching it. Samantha Morton is at the beginning the exact opposite. Her (at least in German) boring, emotionless voice draws the mood down. She looks quite often directly into the camera and that makes the movie look like a cheap homemade video. The toilet scenes with her where very needless. Did they add them for more authenticity? It doesn't upvalue the movie in any way.The story is somewhat interesting. It helps pass the time. Especially after about half of the time, thanks to her amnesia, her acting gets better and so does the movie. Near the end, it even has some unexpected plot turns.Concluding I can say about Code 46, that it starts out weak, gets average and ends rather good. That's enough for 6 stars.
