Steven Russell leads a seemingly average life – an organ player in the local church, happily married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force. That is until he has a severe car accident that leads him to the ultimate epiphany: he’s gay and he’s going to live life to the fullest – even if he has to break the law to do it. Taking on an extravagant lifestyle, Steven turns to cons and fraud to make ends meet and is eventually sent to the State Penitentiary where he meets the love of his life, a sensitive, soft-spoken man named Phillip Morris. His devotion to freeing Phillip from jail and building the perfect life together prompts him to attempt (and often succeed at) one impossible con after another.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

SPOILER ALERT This movie depends a lot on the charisma of its two (straight) stars. I appreciate how difficult it is to film a true story and stick (more or less) to the facts. I knew nothing about this man so everything to me was unexpected which helped me appreciate it more. Obviously the comic elements didn't exist in the real story but I felt that they exaggerated the camp aspect at times. However they sure made the film entertaining! Kudos especially to Jim Carrey. And I'll always appreciate Chances Are more after seeing that late night prison dance scene!

What a sack of junk. I am sick and tired of characters who are so Christian and such family men who out of nowhere "decide" to be the real whatever. And of course the wife and kiddies are supposed to be all for it! And of course this guy manages to drop careers like breath mints and always come up with some great boyfriend, etc. I absolutely HATE IT when the new "husband" sits there smirking while the ex-wife is on the phone. As for gay sex in prison, give me a break. There is nothing romantic about it - they are just horny captives, that's all. The old line that lifers write the best love letters is true. What else do they have to do with their time?I simply did not find the premise charming at all but I guess if you are hardcore gay you latch onto any film that you think appeals to your "community." But prison sex is just prison sex - big deal. I did not stick around to see what he was dying from because frankly, I did not care.

This movie is so.. Gay! Kidding! Well, it is, but you know..I really enjoyed this movie. Jim Carrey is great. He once again shows that he can act. He can act indeed. Ewan McGregor does a good job too.I am no big advocate for gay rights or anything, and I am not gay, so I don't have any "ulterior motive" with liking this movie. But equal rights should of course be a given, no matter what your sexuality, gender, whatever is.What I'm trying to say is that this movie is good. And it's not just good for people who are interested in, uhm, gay stuff.I Love You Phillip Morris is not like every other movie out there, either. It is a little bit of an original story. It's really fun to see Stephen Russells endeavors.

I Love You Phillip Morris is a great movie with a well developed storyline and a fantastic cast. It's a very interesting turn for Jim Carrey, one of his best movies in years, he really becomes the character, a religious family man who becomes a homosexual con man after a car accident, the story is just as intriguing as his performance and you will find it surprising as I did that it's all true. For the fact that's it's a true story, I felt it could have been better as a biography film, rather than just a straight up comedy, the film could have had an expanded runtime and showcased the life of Steven Russell to a more significant degree, his life was certainly interesting enough and Carrey's portrayal definitely could have kept my attention for longer than ninety minutes. The film is not afraid to take risks, which is what I enjoyed the most about it, it's certainly different, it puts a character in the lead role who is almost impossible to sympathise with, and yet we do, their portrayal of Russell's love life is also somewhat more detailed than people would have liked to see, I admired it for not playing things safe. Funny, well acted and very intriguing, I Love You Phillip Morris may not take full advantage of its incredible true story, but it's certainly worth the watch if you're looking for a good comedy or crime film. After realising his true sexual orientation, Steven Russel starts to live a high profile life with his new boyfriend, however, he becomes a con man to afford it. He is soon found out and put into prison, where he meets Phillip Morris. Best Performance: Jim Carrey
