n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.

Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

I saw this movie many many years ago and loved it. I was very young when I first watched it and then i could not find the movie again and recently i had finally found this movie again. This movie is still just as amazing when I first saw it! Wolfgang Petersen's all time classic! A Movie that will never be forgotten! My favourite sci-fi classic from the 80's.

I started watching this movie thinking it was just a low-budget sci- fi movie, with mediocre special effects and a standard plot. The space dogfight wasn't particularly engaging, and even when the characters got stranded in the planet it seemed too much of a B movie. But as the movie progressed, and I got to spend time with the characters and see their development from enemies to friends, I just felt such an emotional connection to them that it made the movie for me. The scene where Jeriba dies is one of the most emotionally- powerful deaths I've seen on screen! Overall, the movie is really an heart-warming experience with a very good message about peace and friendship. It's truth that the third act does fall into some clunky territory, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. For what it had, the movie was really great, compensating the lack of budget with a great script, great performances and great direction. If you're looking for a sci-fi movie with a great message and a heart-warming story, and you don't mind for the special effects, this is the one for you!

Wolfgang Petersen directed this science fiction story, a remake of "Hell In The Pacific", starring Dennis Quaid as an Earth astronaut/pilot in the future where humans are at war with a lizard species nicknamed "Dracs". One such alien crash lands along with the human on a hostile alien world, where they at first avoid each other, but because of mutual needs, are forced to join together to survive, and of course a friendship develops, especially after the "Drac" gives birth, and its child must be protected, even from the humans who eventually rescue them from their plight... Uneven film has good direction and ideas but goes into excessive and obvious melodrama once the evil miners show up. A shame.

I have to say, this is one of my all time fave movies, but I really don't know why! I just love it. It has everything. It has spawned so many copies which haven't worked in quite the same way. You know, enemies become buddies - let's work together blah blah. Cheesy garbage - but this movie just works. Quaid has never been one of my favourite actors, but he's very good in this. And Lou Gosset is just great.I don't know what to say really. This is just one of those films that works when it really shouldn't. Maybe it's the genius of Wolfgang Petersen? All I know is I love it, and in 2012, my grandson adores it and hassles me to put it on the DVD player every time he's round. That could be the best tribute to a very underrated film.
