A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

.. if this kid were just a few inches taller, she would be the reigning youthful queen of Hollywood and the fashion world. There's numerous scenes in this cute, simple little movie, when the camera appears as if it's a foot from her face, that you look at her and see all the glamour images of many of the captivating women of generations before. From the first production you remember seeing her, you've realized she would be a force to be reckoned with. The film is the typical example of the genre, but it's a given she will make any of its' ilk more worthwhile. And these two should most definitely pair up again.. they are unquestionably a screen 'couple' that's to be remembered.

So at first I was not a fan of the movie. I thought the first scene dragged on too long. I thought the screenplay was dull and used awkward lines and actions to portray the characters. There were some scenes that I found unnecessary to move the plot forward such as when the guys ask where the party is and when Chase says hey; However, in life we often have random interludes, so it did make the film feel real. It's not the best movie ever and the acting could be better, but by the end of the film I was really loving the whole meaning behind the storyline. I loved Dave's friends who helped him along the way. This movie reminded me of my time in high school as well, and I thought it was very realistic. I loved the fact that the entire movie was set during a weekend. Coming-of-age films are my favorite, so this will definitely be added to my favorite movies list!

The long term benefits of sunscreen have been scientifically proved ....Well where do I start. I'm not a huge rom-com fan, I just sort of end up watching them whenever I have a spare bit of time; such as some idle Sunday morning (as that's when I watched it) , but based on the previous rom-comes which I have seen I felt that this one is one of the better ones. You will be pleased to know that after a lot of thought I have in fact found a place to start my review. One area of the film which I particularly liked is the relationship between the characters, it looked natural to me as a viewer. This is evident from the first meeting of the two protagonists (or in filmy terms 'the meet-cute) to the final scene, it just seemed to flow to me. However one slight critique here is that the timeframe which these two get to know each other in is slightly unrealistic as it is set over one weekend; giving it a slight inter textual feel of the Shakespeare Tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The acting by all protagonists I feel is excellent; couldn't have chose a better cast even though I hadn't really seen any of them before; apart from the lead male protagonist (who I love from the internship) and his British friend (which I believe to be from Tracy beaker?, that's right I'm cool). However don't base your judgement of this film on my own meandering review; watch it yourself and see just how good it is. Trust me on the sunscreen. ( just thought I'd quote some Baz Luhrmann - everybody's free to wear sunscreen throughout my review)

This is a teen romantic comedy --- that's a genre, so the question is: "how good a job does it do within the genre" and the answer is "an astonishingly good job".These types of movies, like most movies, consist of clichés from the beginning to the end. We expect to see the parents, who fit into one of three buckets. We expect to see the school bullies, whether it's the jocks or the cheerleaders. The trying-so-hard-to-be-cool teacher will make a few (supposedly) humorous appearances. Everything will lead up to Prom, the culmination of high school life. If it's exceptionally funny (eg American Pie), this clichéd path can be worth watching, but usually it's a complete waste of time. As I said, this movie has none of that. For most of its 90 minutes, the only characters on the screen are the two leads. Every other character is minor, with very little screen time, Our leads talk, in a way that feels real (sometimes stupidly, in a way that likewise feels accurate) about what they're feeling, what they want, what they're scared of. But they do in a way that doesn't feel like Indie bullshit --- they are not talking about "the plight of youth in America", they're talking about one person's life in response to another's language and boy language. There are a few of the fraught moments that happen as teenagers try to figure out this part of life, but they happen the way they happen in real life --- with bumbling, misunderstanding, hesitation, reaching out --- not with histrionics and rolling around screaming and smashing things that are the traditional Hollywood manner of signaling "I am now experiencing strong emotion". The world is full of more movies than anyone can ever watch, so my personal filter is I give the movie about five minutes after the initial credits. It has five minutes to establish a tone that makes me want to continue watching. That can be some genuinely funny comedy, striking visuals, a premise that I've not encountered before, or just gripping conversation. (Heart- pounding adrenaline is not going to make the cut, though I doubt Hollywood cares about my personal opinion on that score.) This movie succeeds admirably on that front. The first five minutes very accurately sets the tone of the rest of the movie, and it never disappoints after those first five minutes.
