This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

This Movie tends to get a lot of hate due to its lack of horror. It's not scary it's not a horror movie there's no blood and gore These are the usual complaints I hear Which is a shame because in reality it's such a beautiful film So well made a great cast Jennifer Connelly is outstanding as too the actress Who plays her daughter the story is outstanding why somewhat predictable It's still fantastic the atmosphere is fantastic very dark It's a brilliant movie it's a shame it doesn't get enough credit Because some moron decided to say it's a horror movie it's not The fact is it's a beautiful movie one of the best I've seen for some time Please watch it

It is true that Jennifer Connolly does give an impressive very dedicated performance as a recently divorced mother that is becoming more and more unglued because of strange mysterious goings on in her and her young daughter's new apartment. The goings on really aren't "scary" per say, they mainly focus on the Mom's very painful and troubled childhood, that is a main focus point throughout the film. We see a lot of flashbacks of her and her own mother while she was growing up, and they aren't pleasant memories. I thought the movie would be different than what it actually turned out to be. To me, it was a movie that contained poor dialogue, and a story that didn't go much of anywhere, it just kinda fell flat in the end for me personally. I would've liked to see a better more thrilling and surprising plot, and I always hate whenever a film goes for a good period of time with nothing of any real substance happening, and I feel like this movie did exactly that. If you're looking for an interesting movie that has an intriguing plot and thriller like aspects, I would advise you to look elsewhere for entertainment. Yes, Connolly gives a pretty good performance, but you cannot ask one actor to carry the entire project, and I think she tried, but ultimately it just didn't have all the necessary parts that much up a good film. 3/10.

Forced to stay in a crumbling apartment, a divorcée and her daughter find her new imaginary friend has more sinister motives behind being at the apartment and try to find a way of doing so before her daughter is targeted.Overall this one was a massively bland and boring effort. One of the bigger problems here is the fact that there's just so few ghostly action in this one that it really tends to go on for long periods without anything happening. The focus on the divorce isn't interesting as all it does is bring up the fact that they're not really tolerable towards each other when we first meet them, and their growing animosity doesn't help matters. There's also the numerous problems that comes from living in the apartment together and the other works there, as there's very little here that's appealing in this as almost all of it never really seems designed to showcase scares with the moldy walls inside their rooms, the continually breaking and malfunctioning appliances or how they all affect her mental state here is brought up by staying there as the two are really affected in the apartment which are completely un-scary and don't do anything here to either motive this along at a quick pace or even really make this feel much like a horror film as all of these scenes up front keep the ghostly action confined not only into the second half but also the final few minutes of this one so that so few time s of this one are actually enjoyable these here are what holds this down as there's not a whole lot here to really hold this up otherwise. The final half here is where this kicks off the ghostly action here by putting something behind the few supernatural actions of the previous part of the film so the drowning-level water and the mold spores that keep appearing in the house are all behind the appearance of the ghost girl. Not only is this appearance of the ghost given by the fantastic back-story scene involving the drowning girl in the water-tower which allows this one to go for the great ghostly sequence of the child appearing in the living room while still bathing in the tub which sets up the spectacular sequence of the tow in the drowning bathroom. Still, it's the only real horror scene in this one which does tend to really lower this one as well as well the other flaws here.Rated PG-13: Violence and Language.

Dahlia Williams (Jennifer Connelly) and her daughter Cecelia move into a rundown apartment on New York's Roosevelt Island. They can't afford much since she's in the middle of a divorce, but at least they got a good school. The dilapidated building provides ample opportunities to showcase the creepy factor. There is a lot of water dripping, and it's all very atmospheric. The visuals are interesting, but this is just yet another horror derived from Japan. There is never any doubt of a ghost. There isn't any suspense. Jennifer Connelly does a good job of portraying a mom. But she's basically alone here.
