The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It has the usual failing most ugly duckling / Cinderella / Pygmalion / My Fair Lady shows share, at no point is the heroine not gorgeous. It's insulting and yet I don't hate not having to see the ugly, "Before" version of the star. Yes, I'm shallow and part of this problem. This show has hotties everywhere, a great cast AND it fumbles and stumbles its way through the funny to hilarious effect. It is a good show and well worth seeing. I can easily watch this every 3 - 5 years.

Circumstances lead to a tomboy FBI agent going undercover as a beauty pageant contestant in this lively Sandra Bullock comedy. The film is blessed by a strong supporting cast who make the most out of the admittedly thin material. Michael Caine has a lot of fun playing 'Educating Rita' again with Bullock's unrefined agent while also making amusing advances towards a fellow field agent played by Benjamin Bratt. Candice Bergen has a very juicy part too as the pageant coordinator who believes (a bit too passionately) in the importance of the event. The film trips up though by spending too much time on Bullock being excessively manly in nature, thoughtlessly spontaneous and a klutz in high heels. Bullock, after all, shines brightest in the role when using her wit and when interacting with Bratt, with whom she has terrific chemistry. The film does not exactly tread any new ground in suggesting that pageant contestant can be funny, intelligent people too and the crime subplot that overtakes the final third is a little over-the-top, but the film beams with such positive messages regarding acceptance of others and friendship in unexpected places that it is an easy film to warm to. The Golden Globe nominated song "One in a Million" used during the pageant is really catchy too, plus the film deserves some points for some creative costuming. Oh, and playing water glasses.

Comedy starring Sandra Bullock as Gracie Hart, a tough girl cop who is obsessed with her job, doesn't have time for relationships and despises anything girly. After bungling a police operation, Gracie is consigned to go undercover as Miss New Jersey in the Miss USA beauty contest, resulting in hilarious elocution and posture lessons from an etiquette coach, excellently played by Michael Caine. As she just about convincingly gets through the extensive eliminating rounds, the cynical Gracie gets to know some of the other girls and is gradually transformed in her outlook to femininity and love. Inevitably she spots the saboteur, saves the day and ends the film as a more understanding heroine. The plot idea is extremely thin and it's only the charming performance of Bullock that gets the viewer through. She's ably assisted by the wonderful Michael Caine who pops up in the great role of Victor Melling, the man that must transform Gracie into a beauty queen and William Shatner makes good work of his role as Stan Fields the master of ceremonies. It's great to see these two old actors hamming their parts up for all they are worse. I'll also mention the cute and appealing Heather Burns who as Miss Rhode Island personifies every cliché of the pageant scene and yet still makes a lovely character. It's not a classic comedy by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still immensely delightful and immensely watchable.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.

Miss Congeniality is a film that tells the story of a female FBI agent who must go undercover in a beauty pageant to stop a terrorist bombing. It stars Sandra Bullock together with Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt and Candice Bergen.Gracie Hart is an FBI Special Agent. The FBI learns that there has been a bomb threat against the 75th annual Miss United States beauty pageant in San Antonio, Texas, which the bureau determines came from the notorious domestic terrorist known as "The Citizen". Gracie's partner, Special Agent Eric Matthews , is chosen to lead the mission to stop the attack. He acquires Gracie's assistance in the mission despite the fact that she was re-assigned to a desk job for there is an increase chance of success with her involvement in it.Despite of a mediocre screenplay and an unoriginal premise,Sandra Bullock provides a great and memorable performance as Gracie that the viewer finds joy, delight and entertainment in the movie. She manages to carry the film all throughout that the viewer buys into its unrealistic events and fun that it provides. She managed to pull the movie from almost an average flick into a holiday charmer.
