if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

This movie is a drama of a triangle between the 'loser' Jack, and the sisters Hannah and Iris. Jack is sent to the familys cottage to think about his future. He arrives, not knowing that the other sister, Hannah, is there. He searches for the key and gets in 'as thieve' and is received as a thieve by Hannah with a gun. They 'celebrate' this misunderstanding by drinking - and - sharing the bed. Early arrives Iris with food, not knowing that her sister is there, Jack dresses in a hurry, leaves and returns 'from a morning-run'. Eventually we learn that the condom was prepared, Hannah hoping that she gets pregnant. The film ends with the open answer question if she is pregnant or not. The issue is another. The focus how they cope with themselves. The general rule for a loser is: is nothing left the only alternative is to turn - and tis does the might-be-father: turns and returns, telling the truth of himself and offers whatever he is able and is asked of him, the might-be-father, ready to do his best. The question is not the might-be-pregnancy but how to cope when nothing else is left but to turn. It is good to have company and you are not alone. To have the assurance: "Whoever has the Sun, turn it on!"

The biggest impression I got from this movie is how well the relationships and emotions are portrayed in it. That is, emotions of contemporary, urban, humans. Of course, it's not a documentary, so the story isn't 100% authentic, but, it's elements are. They are just jumbled together for greater effect. The acting is very good in the same respect. You will see elements of behavior of people you've known in this movie, and it's gonna be interesting. One final thing to observe is that they seem to have enjoyed making this movie. It's very nice when you sense that about a movie, and it's not very often that you do.

Love thy sister, even and especially if you guys are different. Same goes for brothers I reckon and you kinda get both here (more or less). But this concentrates on relationships, friendships and life in general (growing old and other things). The script is good, with maybe the exception of some "quiet time", that could've been shorter, because we do get the point. But it's very well acted throughout and the point is still made. The script/dialog is good and the situations the characters find themselves in feel genuine. You might think that some things come off as strange, but you may not have the whole picture yet ... though some things are very obvious, it does not hurt (the flow of) the movie! Not out with big effects or anything, this is a slow burner

This is another "small" movie that does what Hollywood movies used to do, that is make us care about the characters on screen. This bright, dialog-driven character study of a male reeling from his brother's death, his best gal pal, and her sister (recovering from a recently ended long-term relationship) leads us up to and through the one-night stand that changes all of their lives forever. The freshness and realness of these characters are brought to life through a mostly-improvised script, excellent acting of the three leads (Emily Blunt keeps getting better), and the direction of Lynn Shelton. A film well worth watching.
