Sadly Over-hyped
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Don't bother watching this. I wouldn't class this as a horror. Snoozefest maybe. There are so many idiotic decisions made that are just so unrealistic. And the things that happen (besides the girl sobbing like 90% of the movie) are not believable. Have a read of the other comments with spoilers to see lists of all the unrealistic and unbelievable things. And then some are just outright harmful LIES - like the wolves. Wolves DO NOT act in the way they are portrayed. Who paid for this movie? The sub-humans at the wolf hunting and killing associations? Lies to mislead viewers into thinking wolves are like they are portrayed in the movie to keep up the big bad wolf narrative so people will continue to be afraid of them and continue to be fine about a beautiful intelligent endangered species continuing to be slaughtered to extinction. The people that made this movie should be ashamed, not just because its a slow and stupid movie but because of the immorality. Whoever owns these wolves should also be ashamed for letting them be shown thus way and exploited. There's also needless gore and there is suspense at times, and missed opportunities to make the movie better.
Typical horror-type movie where the characters lack thinking. Immediately the first instance of being left alone would spur action in daylight, when it is warmest, not later when cold sets in for frostbite and all the rest. Not to mention freezing to death aboard a ski chair high off the ground. One of male characters should climb to tow cable, make his way to grounded structure (which has ladder steps) on his front side straddling cable. Once on the ground look not for escape but any ready-available weapons to ward off potential animal attacks. Does not matter if safety is a quarter mile. At minimum, this would consume an hour from chair to building safety down below. It amazes me where other people miss my points altogether. What person in this situation when the CAT was below would throw a ski pole or whatever down instead of a snowboard which commands attention immediately? Equally ponderous is why the CAT operator stopped where he did and return to offices instead of completing inspection. And what about the character's own cars in the parking lot? Hello? A sole car after all others have driven off isn't noticeable? Hello? Characters in this movie did everything wrong which one wonders, what were the writers thinking? I thank my lucky stars I did not pay to view this monstrosity. Oh, and of course, didn't anyone have a cell phone?
PROS: To start off, the plot was extravagantly thought out. Although it was simple and plain there was a lot that they covered. They covered who, where, what, when, why, and how, and this made the film run very seamlessly. To add on, the build up in tension was very well realized and it was able to keep steady throughout the duration of the film. This was able to distract from the rather basic idea of the film as a whole, but even though it was basic, it wasn't boring. They acting was spotty in many places, but my favorite actor, Shawn Ashmore, who played JOE carried the film for me. Another thing that was helpful was the marketing. I don't normally pipe in on the advertising/movie cover, but this movie did an excellent job at delivering the message of the movie in a single picture, which was helpful.CONS: To continue with the acting, the big problem that I had with this movie was the inconsistency. The characters should feel real even when they aren't in a "horrifying" scene. Relationships between the characters start when they laugh and talk normally, not when the scary stuff happens. The last issue I had was the ending. I watch horror movies to see the intensity of what a person will do in a time of struggle, and in this movie they didn't deliver that message to the end. Although the ending was nice, it just wasn't for me. Overall this movie is a must see!www.chorror.com
Terrible, terrible movie. I can't believe so many people gave this film so many positive reviews. The acting was horrible, the script was poorly written, and the film followed no plot whatsoever. Whatever you do, don't watch it - it is not worth the time, patience or money. I felt like I was watching a train-wreck waiting to explode watching this film. It hurt my brain that much. I rated it 1, but only because I can't give it 0. Stay away at all cost.
