Good concept, poorly executed.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

A family reunion at a father's funeral is going to turn very nasty as everyone holds a secret who's unveiling will leave deep marks on the others. It's a comedy which besides having a good idea and being very funny provides nothing else than a big disappointment. You see, everything has its limits and when you break them (especially as often as this movie does) you end up with a cavalcade of awkward, stupid and unnecessary situations. It starts very promising and funny but that's about it, degenerating rapidly into scenes and characters which shouldn't have been there, all ending up as exaggerated as it can be. I really was expecting more but hey, there's always a better movie waiting to be seen.

By making a US version of this comedy- they have dumbed it down and lost a lot in translation. Much of what made the original film great was absent, with poor acting throughout and lackluster line delivery ruining most of the jokes. The actors seemed to not understand the story and as a result the expression and tone required to pull this off just wasn't there. Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock may as well have been reading their lines...they were that bad. Tracy Morgan and Luke Wilson were also surprisingly poor. James Marsden was probably the best performance whilst all the Ladies performed reasonably well- and Peter Dinklage played the EXACT same character. This remake was genuinely pointless, a waste of money and I wish I hadn't watched it because it might put a dampener on the UK version- so I highly recommend that you watch the UK version and skip this one.

This film is a remake of the 2007 British version. The difference is that the original version I can put it in the top 10 of the best comedies I seen but this one could not even be in top 1000. It's the same notion, same situation, the only thing that changed were the actors. Too bad he did not come out a little better considering that some big names of comedy could be seen but even they do not have managed to somewhat save this failure. Can not be considered a quality movie when stealing an idea and not improve anything, add something different for the audience to be satisfied to have seen a better movie than the original. My opinion is that this movie was not supposed to exist.

The problem nowadays, is that no one can ever make a remake and have it criticized on its on merit...instead everyone just compares it to its' original and believes that you can't like both. As a person who never saw the original, I can say that this was a a good movie. The only reason why I gave it a 9 instead of a ten is because the very very beginning (maybe the first 15 minutes) sort of coddled us through the introductions, and I much prefer a movie/TV show to dive right into the plot. But other than that, the movie was hilarious all the way through...in fact it seemed to get funnier as the story progressed. By the end of it, I was dying with laughter. The acting was great, the ensemble cast had great chemistry and each character stood out int their own way so the character development was spot on. I think that people should give this movie a real shot and don't go into it comparing it to the original because no remake is going to be the same...every remake is going to have it's own twist and creativity that's going to cater to different people...so give this movie a shot! :)
