The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

For the first time in about 13 years, I sat down to see this movie which I had not seen since elementary school. Unfortunately, the 25 cents I spent on a VHS copy at the local thrift shop was wasted. well, maybe not, that 25 cents will go to feed some poor guy.My favorite martian is based upon the TV series from the early 60's, starring Christopher Lloyd as uncle martin, and Jeff Daniels as Tim O'Hara. Tim O'Hara is a news reporter who is paired up with the station manager's daughter, a spoilt brat. One night, Tim witnesses a UFO crash and brings the only evidence home - a shrunken UFO. The UFO's driver sneaks into his car invisibly, and makes Tim's life a living hell for a little while. Now admittedly, there are some good jokes and one-liners lying around in this movie, but they're few and far between, and they only get a chuckle out of me personally. and if you know the writers (Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver, who both worked on Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs) They definitely could've done a lot better. My favorite person throughout the whole thing was Wallace Shawn, who plays coleye, a scientist who is as weird as his voice. You might recognize the voice from the Toy story movies, as Rex.This movie failed where it's appeal was aimed. They were trying to appeal to the adults that watched the series back in the 60's but were also trying to appeal to kids with the blatant toilet humor, but remember the old proverb - if you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one.4/10

So taking advice from these "know it all's" from IMDb, might not always be a smart decision, as I remember reading all these negative reviews here about this movie, yet yesterday i felt compelled to pick it up.If you're a fan of feel good family movies, I Highly recommend this title, as long as you're not looking for the Original TV Series plot. This movie was never aimed for the older generation who watched the original TV Series, hence "Disney's Children's MOVIE".With some great laughs from all characters, especially "zoot", this will bring back a dose of nostalgia to those 20 year olds out there, back to there days of transitioning from a child to a teen.Don't listen to these so called "movie critics" because they know just as much about movies as you do. Great Movie for the Kids, or for a Family Flick night.

Silly, often ridiculous romp involving the landing of a space ship and the resulting havoc this causes on Tim (Jeff Daniels) and the people in his orbit.Am always amazed by Daniels. He showed such depth and promise in 1983's "Terms of Endearment" as Shirley MacLaine's philandering son-in-law. As the years have passed, Daniels has been unable to get his hands on a good, meaty role. Instead, he is in inane comedies such as "Dumb and Dumber."As for this picture, it fails because of the subject matter. At least, the television show brought about a variety of situations. In the film, we have constant slapstick and people turning into monsters as the government is thwarted into capturing the martian-Martin.The part of Mrs. Brown is a perfect example of the non-success of the film. On television, Pamela Britton portrayed a ditsy individual caught up in situations with the martian leaving her perplexed. In the film version, a blond bomb-shell as Brown, tries romantic entanglement.Television star Ray Walston has a small role as a government agent, or is he really that?A very big disappointment for those who enjoyed the television show so much.

I'm not saying this movie stunk, but by the same token I'm not saying that it is good. As I was watching, I drew comparisons to another Christopher Lloyd film called "Back To The Future." In both films he played a character that is into fixing things as well as using vehicles as means of transportation between worlds. Also, it seemed that Jeff Daniels' character Tim O'Hara was an older version of Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly as they both played second fiddle to Christopher Lloyd. I found this film to be lacking in some areas such as laughter. Since this film is based on a television show, I'm sure that the director wanted to make the film as if it were an original. I thought that everything in this film was predictable; from its landing and the doctor who is after Uncle Martin to the traditional "happy" ending. With this being said, it was entertaining and enjoyable for younger audiences, but not for people around my age. I guess since this is meant for children it is not supposed to be such a thinking movie, but come on I would have appreciated it more if it gave the older audience something more to chew on as we sat through the film. This is one remake that could have been better if it were not made.
