This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows

Sadly we only made it through about 15-minutes worth; simply too many f-bombs that overwhelmed any dialog.

First of all, this movie is nothing to do with Empire State Building. When I saw the movie poster with that building the background, I thought the movie would be something like 'White House Down' which will be defended against the terrorist takeover/attack. Poster also misleads that the movie is a complete action pack, but it was not. It was a crime-thriller which was based on the real story. The sudden variation in scenes and the character behaviors kind of incompetence to keep balanced everything in the story progress. Inspired by a real event is what kept my interest all the way. Suppose it was fictional that was written for the movie I would have said the writer was confused between character to build and story development. On the other side the performances promised to conclude the movie on a high note and it does. One of it was Dwayne Johnson, actually it was not his movie, but his part was a highlight alongside Liam Hemsworth and Michael Angarano. Could have done a little better in few parts for the best outcome. Anyway, it will entertain you, but cannot remain in your memory for so long.

The movie tells the real story of one of the biggest heist in New York at the beginning of the '80. Chris Potamitis used to work at a club but he loses this job because it had to shutdown. Now he searches for a new workplace and finds a post as a security guard for a company that moves large amounts of money with bulletproof vans. His father is not that lucky because he also loses his job for a little dispute between his son and his boss. The lifetime best friend of Chris, Eddie is a low time crook and rascal. One night, being on duty Chris discovers many flaws in the security system of the bank and tells Eddie about this. Incidentally Eddie tells that seeing this and all the bad luck he had lately he might as well rob it. He takes him serious and manage too steal a bag with 25000 $ without being caught. But what happens when the local cop starts investigating this mysterious robberies and the word that they could get rich very easy and very quick reaches at the wrong peoples?I give it such a high rating because it is inspired by a true event, has drop of humor, shows what weak where the protection of valuable items back them, letting a dog do some of the job and if you have 90 minutes of boredom this movie will successfully cover.

Set in the Greek Quarter of New York City back in the early 1980s, "Empire State" is about Chris (Liam Hemsworth), a lowly-paid security guard of an armored truck company. He made the unfortunate decision to abet in a robbery on his employer planned by his lowlife friend, Eddie (Michael Angarano). When they actually pull off what turned out to be the biggest heist in the US history at that time, all the local gangsters, as well as tough NYPD cop Detective Ransome (Dwayne Johnson), breathe down their necks. For me, all the key roles were miscast. Liam Hemsworth looked too confident and self-conscious to be realistic as a down-and-out impoverished security guard. I was thinking that the scrawny Michael Angarano would have been better off as Chris instead of his supporting role of Eddie. This was especially after we see a clip of the real Chris at the end of the film. Dwayne Johnson looked too "modern" and did not look like he belonged in that time period when the events happened. Emma Roberts had a role as Chris' girlfriend, which was largely inconsequential. The true-to-life story actually had potential to be a good film, however, the execution of this one left a lot to be desired. The story- telling was slow and boring. There was no dramatic tension where there should have been. There was no feeling of excitement even during the actual heist itself. This looked and felt more like a made-for-TV movie from the 1980s than a current big screen feature.
