In Seattle, detective Quentin Conners is unfairly suspended and his partner Jason York leaves the police force after a tragic shooting on Pearl Street Bridge, when the hostage and the criminal die. During a bank heist with a hostage situation, Conners is assigned in charge of the operation with the rookie Shane Dekker as his partner. The thieves, lead by Lorenz, apparently do not steal a penny from the bank. While chasing the gangsters, the police team disclose that they planted a virus in the system, stealing one billion dollars from the different accounts, using the principle of the Chaos Theory. Further, they find that Lorenz is killing his accomplices.

Two cops, a rookie and a grizzled vet, pursue an accomplished bank robber. Chaos is a pretty well executed and developed heist, action, thriller that benefits from Jason Statham, Wesley Sniples and Ryan Phillippe which by my suprise did a pretty damn good job as a rookie cop. The film isn't without it's flaws tho cause after a very good opening it kinda slows down a bit and it drags in certain places but the acting as i said was pretty damn great and the twist in the end? I gotta admit it i did not see it coming and it was pretty damn clever for sure. (7.5/10)

This well-constructed action film seeks to apply the construct of "chaos theory," including the so-called jerk systems to a perfectly conceived crime in a bank heist of one billion dollars. The ideas of Edward Norton Lorenz and James Gleick are generally described in a film that is filled with plot twists and surprises. The biggest shock to the audience comes in the final minutes at the airport, where the mastermind who has created the chaos reveals the grand scheme. The intelligent crooks are the most noteworthy part of the film, with the general police staff to be the ordinary jerks who are clueless. The principal relationship is that of an experienced Seattle police detective Quentin Conners (Jason Statham) and the young rookie named Shane Dekker (Ryan Phillippe). The film is a smorgasbord of interesting characters and even devises a romantic subplot between Conners and Teddy Galloway (Justine Waddell). While serving a suspension for misconduct when a hostage was inadvertently killed by his partner named York, Conners is called back to duty during the bank heist in downtown Seattle. It is there that the film begins its long and complex journey towards the truth.SPOILER FOLLOWS: The double twist at the end is a fascinating one in which it is revealed the the criminal involved in the bank heist was York, the former partner of Conners. But the second revelation is the true stunner: Conners himself was the mastermind who, despite the intelligence of his young partner, outfoxes everyone with the perfect crime.Statham is great in the role of Conners, and there are some extremely well-executed action sequences. But it is the character developments and the surprising plot elements that make "Chaos" a fast-paced film that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In this world there are basically only two kinds of Jason Statham movies--good ones and bad ones, but, this one belongs to the rare third category of mediocre. Statham has little range as an actor (although he's Meryl Streep compared to his co-star Wesley Snipes), and he's clearly always playing an idealized version of his off-screen self; however, when a script properly exploits his well-above average physical capabilities, his above average intelligence, but his significantly below average emotional sensitivity to its advantage, the result can be very entertaining. Granting a pass to all of the plot holes that inevitably hit you during or after viewing a movie like this, this production's real dilemma is that the for the plot to truly come alive, it would require as much from Statham's heart as from his head and muscles, and, unfortunately, you can't get blood from a rock (although Statham has a proved ability to get blood from pretty much anything else). Therefore, without tossing out any spoilers, the only really big problem I have with this film is that the complex plot would be much more believable if Statham were able to naturally convey a more complex person. On the positive side, this movie isn't truly bad or totally predictable, and I don't feel cheated in any way for having watched it. As a matter of fact, I expect that most Statham fans will probably enjoy it, but in the final analysis, I personally just didn't "feel it". To each his own, and, in this particular case, I won't take any issues with that.

This is one of the movies you have to follow closely, popping into kitchen or toilet could impair your understanding what is really going on, and if/how the different events are connected. The distinction of good/bad guys obtains another meaning and even if you realize that something is happening inside the police, it is not easy to find out who and why... That is why I liked the movie in spite of lots of clichés (especially during chases) and non-top-class actors (e.g. Jason Statham is not bad, but he is still no Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson). Ryan Phillipe and Wesley Snipes were surprisingly good, their characters were realistic and elaborated. Well, in fact, it turned out, that everything was planned... And as mistakes were basic, so the ending is logical. Recommendable to those fond of mind-twisting during the course of a move.
