Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Mary PoppinsThere are few sketchy overstretched musical sequences that; even though looks stunning and pleasing on terms of visual aspects, seems redundant and required better editing. Having said that, the choreography, background score, songs, costume design and production design are at their peak that speaks more than anything in here. Robert Stevenson is in his A game and doesn't fail on conveying the anticipated message to the audience. Julie Andrews is the genuinely the "protagonist" in this feature that needs no support as she carries it all off in her shoulder like a charm. Mary Poppins works particularly for its sensibility and simplicity of picking up a concept through something so common and mundane (like a tuppence) that it resonates and communicates with the audience in a click and still reach for more general and wider vision.

9/17/17. Definitely a classic musical that is not to be missed! Considering the age of this movie, it was way ahead of its time in terms of cinematic delights - dancing and singing animated animals! Still a fun movie to watch with children of all ages! I'm looking forward to the remake with Emily Blunt. The entire cast was fantastic and now I see why Julie Andrews was such a darling with the public when this and the Sound of Music came out a year later.

Based on P. L. Travers's beloved children's book and featuring an ensemble cast of some of the greatest actors of their era, including Julie Andrews in her film debut. The Banks family are looking for a new nanny, but the children's application is sent quite literally up the chimney only for it to be picked up by a no-nonsense woman sitting on the edge of a cloud alongside her bottomless bag and a talking umbrella.Widely considered to be the Disney Studios finest achievement, and for a good reason. It's nigh impossible to find a flaw in this film. Everything from Andrew's Academy Award winning performance to the animated segments to the score by the Sherman Brothers is amazing. Not to even mention the story. Thus, instead of looking for flaws, I shall discuss some of my favourite things in this film.First of all, the music. It's hard to find a movie where every single song could be the big showstopper number in a lesser film. But here they are. And they're not all loud and bombastic, though some certainly are. But others are quiet, almost solemn. Feed the Birds or the sudden whispering from Bert (Dick Van Dyke) near the start of the film. Overall top notch job from the Sherman Brothers. It's also technically impressive film, even today. The painted London backgrounds hit just the perfect balance between beautiful and real enough. The animated segments mixed with live-action look great. It would take over two decades for Roger Rabbit to improve upon this standard. But the best part of the film, and why people still love it, is the story as well as the characters. The whole world of this film, really. More than a little kooky, but able to go quiet and thoughtful in the blink of an eye. And at the heart of all that is of course Mary Poppins (Andrews), with her straight-laced attitude and strict manners, which still give way for oddness and exciting strolls over the rooftops of London. But as has been pointed out time and time again, this story is really about Mr. Banks, played by David Tomlinson. What a fine character. In any other film he would be the villain. A strict and distant father figure, from whom Mary Poppins arrives to save the children. But this film is better than that. Mr. Banks obviously loves his children, he simply needs to realize it.I did not see this film as a child, mainly because it's not dubbed very well in my language. But when I saw it as an adult, I was blown away. One of the best children's films I've ever seen. One of the best films I've seen, period.

This is one of the most celebrated and acclaimed musical films ever created in that it mixes comedy, music, animation and joy in the right measure. Julie Andrews carries the film on her back thanks to the enormous talent she demonstrates every minute. She is truly great in the main character. Beside her, Dick Van Dyke is the strongest male character with a contagious joy. The script is very good and tells the story of an enchanted nanny who entertains and teaches two children, changing even the life of the whole family. The film is full of great songs that have become immortal and constitute one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. A great movie for the whole family, timeless and worthy of being on the shelf of any home.
