At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

As a person who grew up with the Brendan Fraser Mummy films I have a place in my heart for them. However this film is terrible. The CGI is horrifying, the acting is laughable, and the story is now great. But I still thing this film and the others are worth watching. Also on a side note I don't understand the hate for Brendan. Sure he isn't an amazing actor, but he's far from terrible. I haven't ever seen a film with him I disliked.

It's sad to see what could have been an excellent sequel turned into just another stupid movie of stupid action. The bases for a great story are there, but it was very poorly delivered. The adorable heroes seem to have another personality, causing them to lose the chemistry between them from the first movie, much because of the script and the dialogues, especially Evelyn who in this film discovers - see the stupidity - to be the reincarnation of the princess "warrior" Nefertiri, which makes her a woman of guns instead of the charming half-snobbish girl of the first movie, the purpose of this so she can have some fight sequences with Anksunamun, the lover Imotep wants to resurrect. What really irritates me is that in the end Anksunamun turns her back on Imotep by betraying him to death. Why?!? Does not make sense. Why would she have killed the Pharaoh and committed suicide for Imotep's sake now to turn her back on him? That was part of the charm of these villains: even though they were evil, they had this human spark - they loved each other. But I also have to admit that from the entire movie - from the WHOLE movie - that was the only scene that really messed with me so cruel it was. If they had to die then it should be together: she would try to save him but she would fail, both falling into the abyss with the souls pushing them away and taking them to the bottom as they try in vain to hold hands. Would not this end be more beautiful and even more tragic and appropriate?Alex, the son, is funny in the role of "smart kid" but unnecessary to the plot, and the sequence in which he leaves the clues to his parents in plain sight for all to see is very badly thought so much in terms of writing as accomplishment. The whole film is exaggerated: the action is exaggerated (now the mummies run along walls and ceilings), comedy and goofiness and animation are exaggerated, too many special effects obviously unfinished that do not mix well at all with the rest of the background unlike the first movie. This is one of those cases where LESS would be MORE. And it makes me sad that the fantastic first movie does not have a better reputation because of these horrible sequels.

There were a few flaws in this movie I wanted to point out. Their son, Alex is eight. If you took the year they met and added it up until the time setting that is only seven years, which meant he couldn't be Rick's son unless he had a one night stand with Evie that neither remembered. In the first movie Ardeth Bay never tells them what his name is, it is never mentioned, but in the second movie they greet him by name.As sequels go it was pretty good. An added bonus is buying the DVD two disc version that gives you much back history on the people and characters depicted in the movie. It also has a blooper reel that still makes me laugh. I do enjoy it and the first one too including that beautiful white cat that should've been around for the whole movie. The third one i found a little silly and completely unnecessary, but this was not a bad movie, it really did have some great moments.

This sequel opens in ancient Egypt and shows a warrior known as 'The Scorpion King' raise an army and set about conquering the known world. Eventually he is defeated and as he is about to die in the desert he prays to Anubis; he gives him a new army and he takes Egypt but is then taken by Anubis. The action then moves forward to 1932 and explorer Rick O'Connell and his wife Evelyn are searching a site in Egypt; Evelyn had strange visions that led her to the Bracelet of Anubis. They return to London with it and their son Alex puts it on; it locks onto his wrist and shows him a vision of Ahm Shere, in Egypt. Meanwhile a cult has raised Imhotep; hoping that he can defeat the Scorpion King and take command of his army… to do that they kidnap Alex and take him to Egypt; along the way Alex is told that he has seven days from the moment he put the bracelet on to get to Ahm Shere or he will die. His parents, along with his uncle Jonathan and Ardeth Bay, set off in pursuit and before the time limit is up they come across a variety of dangers and ultimately must confront the risen Scorpion King.Fans of the first film will almost certainly enjoy this; the plot is fairly ridiculous but that doesn't matter as the action barely stops from start to finish. The action is pretty good for the most part although some of the CGI is certainly showing its age; unfortunately this includes the Scorpion King himself. The central cast are pretty good; Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have a good chemistry as Rick and Evelyn and John Hannah provides some good laughs as Johnathon. Shaun Parkes also provides some funny moments as Izzy, the pilot of a dirigible who has had bad experiences when working with Rick in the past. Overall this is a solid 'Boys' Own' adventure with little material that could offend and thrills that are suitable for older children and adults wanting good silly fun.
