When a U.S. Marine returns home from Afghanistan, he finds that the place he once called home is no better than the battlefields he fought on overseas. Accompanied by his best friend, he searches desperately for the whereabouts of his estranged son and wife. In their search, the two intercept a man carrying vital information about his family.

Amateur movie with Big budget
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
This movie was not that hard to understand. The movie critics do not give the viewers enough credit. It could have been written a little better, but Shia LaBeouf delivered a powerful and an emotionally driven performance about PTSD. The end was hard to take, and everyone in the room was pretty chocked up. His performance alone earned this movie high ratings.
Usually the IMDb rating doesn't fail me. With this movie it does. Shia delivers nothing short of an Oscar performance. Yes, the movie has some structural problems but that is mainly because we get 3 different plots and we don't know how they connect. But it makes sense in the end, so be patient. Even if you won't like the movie you will enjoy Shia's performance. After his "blockbuster-years" he totally turned things around with really good performances like in American Honey. I don't get why the critics are so hard on Man Down but even they acknowledged his outstanding performance. And this movie also delivers such an important message.
A well-crafted script, interweaving time-lines, following a marine through family exchanges, training, combat, debriefing results in an iconic, touching and classic film. I was very disappointed that this film was not hailed as a critical or popular success, and wonder if the studio publicized it adequately. Shia LaBeouf's world-class performance was nuanced, masterful and merited awards and accolades. His co-star Kate Mara was natural and authentic, and Charlie Shotwell, who played their young son, was very talented and moving. Gary Oldman's performance was also compelling. Rarely has a film that I felt was so classic been so little appreciated. Not only was there a very personal story here, but a more universal narrative resulting in sensitivity training in the horrors of war and the number of veterans suffering from PTSD. It is my hope that this film will find more viewers, since it is of a very high quality. It is also my hope that the director, writers and actors are not discouraged, and go on to make more films.
I guess you either love Shia, or realize he's one step away from Keanu Reeves level.I'm mystified how anyone can like the guy. Not his acting, the person himself. In every single movie he's been in, I just want to punch him in the face. He can't even enunciate. This movie literally needs "Shia-To_English" subtitles. He also has exactly one facial expression. ONE. - And that expressions says "I've just taken 2 valium. Give me my check and I'll read my lines for you."Also, the movie is incredibly dark and depressing.
