"Edward Scissorhands" tells the story of a young man, created by a scientist, whose creator died before he could give him real hands. Now he lives on a dark castle with scissors as hands, until a friendly lady from the neighboring town invites him to live with her family. Newly invited into the conservative community, problems begin to arise. You can clearly see that this film is supposed to serve as a parabola rather than a realistic plot. It succeedsin creating great emotions towards the main character and his fateful love for the daughter of the family. Personally, I didn't like the set design all too much, but that's just a question of preferences and you can clearly see the typical Tim Burton style shimmering through. The story is not really creative or innovative but it is told nicely and the acting is great. All in all this is not a must-see but it can serve as an example what exclusion can cause in people and how we are all responsible for creating a society that is worth living in.

Considering the complex character of Edward Scissorhands being based of a sketch done by Burton, Caroline Thompson does a wonderful job developing the story, with a character that hurts anyone who gets to close. The film features the first collaboration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, Depp even admits to crying the first time he read the script. The character is loved by many, mainly for Depp's tear-jerking performance. Despite his exterior look he is the sweetest being ever "made." I also feel sympathetic for the character knowing you can't help him, you feel as isolated as the Inventor's castle on the mountain. Edward and his stark contrasts to "normal" people is also presented through the houses; Edward dark and isolated from everyone else where all the rest are colourful and interactive with each other.Winona Ryder was Depp's real life girlfriend at the time, she declined a role in "The Godfather Part III" (1990) to take the role of Kim Boggs, the love between Kim and Edward is heart-warming and one of the main themes of the movie.Every time i view the film i always end up crying and it's also due to Danny Elfman's superb soundtrack.Burton does a fantastic job directing his most well known film, he also includes his childhood hero Vincent Price "The Inventor."Burton is an iconic visionary director and marvellous storyteller and it has never been more evident than in his most recognisable picture.

No other film accomplish such perfect metaphor of the human condition, from its greatness to its evilness. The true and hard portrait of our society at its best and its worse... Marvelous screenplay, beautiful photography, astonishing acting from Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder and Dianne Wiest, and a superb soundtrack from Danny Elfman... I've seen this movie about 5 times now, and it always feels like the first time... and each time I see it, the more I know that this is, definitely, the movie of my life...

I'm not going to write any spoilers here or anything related to the story. I'm just going to say - I am extremely lazy when it comes to creating accounts on sites and writing reviews which is why I almost never do it, but this time I just had to. I had to make account on this site just to write my opinion on this movie - or let me say, on this wonderful piece of art. Opinions are opinions, a lot of people won't agree, but I'm just going to say this - this movie is the best thing I have ever seen in my life. I never liked watching movies much, but I started to a couple of months ago. I watched a lot of them recently, ranging from comedy to horror, and I remembered this one. I found out about Edward Scissorhands a long time ago, but never really thought of giving it a try. These days I had some free time, so I was like why not? And it was the best decision I've ever made. This movie is just beautiful. Edward's character grew so much on me, and I can't even explain how I feel every time I replay the ending or turn on Danny Elfman's magical soundtrack. I watched the movie yesterday, and I've been thinking about it since then, I just can't get it off my mind! I've never liked something so much before, not a movie, a book, a video game, anything. This movie is a masterpiece, I won't say anything about its story and motives, because everyone should watch it and see for themselves. I want to watch it over and over again, I don't want it to ever end. It's like it became a part of me. Thank you Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and everyone else who took part in making this beautiful thing.
